Do you use wood to heat your house on winter? or the expensive oil for heater?

We use both in the couple of years but this year I think we will use wood. Oil is now very expensive and it might eat up all out budget.. Of course when we have week end travel and we are not home, we usually use oil to heat the house.. but when we are home, we will use wood. We have a big wood stove and that would saved our oil budget. I would just imagine in my country where we have no problem of being cold.. hahaha we have a problem of being hot all the time. Is there anybody here who is still using wood stove for heating the house? Or just me? Nice to hear your experience of how to protect yourself from the cold.

Hello Bebs. It was a long time ago, or to be exactly, it was about two decades ago when we used to live in the old big house that my parents used wood and coal for cooking, but not ever since we moved into our new house. We use gas or electricity to cook. If we want to keep warm in winter, we use air-conditioner or heater. Good day.

hahaha!!! we don't use wood for cooking. We have electric stove and all the other appliance at home that use electricity. We also have oil tank for heating ourselves when we choose to use oil. We also have electric heaters but we wisely use the logs which we have a lot at the back of our house to warm ourselves this winter in order to cut off our electricity bills and oil expense. We are not buying the wood anyway. We just want to save as much as we can..

Actually we're pretty lucky...we use electric. We used to live in a house that used wood heat and it leaves a nasty soot on everything not to mention that I was always terrified that the house would burn down. My Mom uses propane and is spending a big chunk of money to keep her house semi warm through the winter. My oldest brother uses natural gas and his is really high as well. I prefer the electric. Our apartment is really well insulated so we don't have to use much and so our electric bill isn't that high. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

good for you.. we use electric heater sometimes but we don't rely on that most of the time because we don't want to pay high bills at the end of the month. The wood had helped us save a lot this winter. We hope we can't buy oil because it's too expensive well, not very much today but we still prefer to use wood because we will not be spending a penny to have wood. We have a lot at the back of our house.

I live in a apartment complex. in these apartments heating is done by gas.. only we have to switch on the heating & the whole apt. becomes warm. my apt. has a fire place too. we can use wood or charcoal for heating. but acctually we don't like it. so we use only gas heating.

We use wood to heat the house too, we have a fireplace and its going non-stop all winter long. Our house is big and drafty, so we need to keep it going or we'll get cold, last year we also had to buy a woodstove to help the fireplace, because we had an ice storm, and everybody's electricity went out, and if it wasn't for the woodstove we bought, we would of froze, I was also able to cook on it, my cookstove is electric, so I couldn't use it for awhile. We don't ever use oil or gas, its too expensive here. We also have a pellet stove, it burns little wood pellets, so whenever we aren't home, we can set the thermostat on it and it will keep the house decent, so our pipes don't freeze. The pellets for that aren't that cheap either.

wow!! that's very interesting!!! so, the wood stove helped you a lot specially when the electricity was off? Oh! I find it very good idea to have wood this winter because it can help us a lot with our electric and oil budget. Glad you shared this.
