Do you know Alcohol Kills Memory Cells

I am a moderate drinker. I do not drink in the day time. I use to have three drinks before my dinner. We use to discuss various matters when we are free in the office and during these discussions,I came across a friend who says that the alcohol usually weaken the memory cells in the human brain. I contacted a doctor in this matter and he told me that the use of excessive alcohol kills the memory cells and with the passage of time the memory become poorer. What is your opinion about this, does the alcohol kills the memory cells or weaken the memory cells. Please share your experience and knowledge about it.
