Hi Friends,
I have seen chinees people eat those rice and noodles with Chopsticks. I tried it and failed. Ok leave that to side. My Question is how do you prefer to eat.? Do you prefer Only Eat with Hand, or do you always require Spoon and Fork.? I usaully prefer Hand but not always, again depends what i am eating. If it is Roti or Non what we prepare in India i use hand, other if it is a rice or gravy items i prefer Spoons and forks. SO friends how do you eat your food.?

I do much prefer to eat using spoon and fork rather that eating with my bare hands. Its more comfortable and im already use to it. Another alternative is using chopsticks, especially when i am eating in a japanese restaurant i use chopsticks.

Good, First Thanks FOr replying. Ya Even I tried to use those Chopsticks usually for these chinees and Japanees food. But no luck, always i fail. I found its very hard to eat with chopstick so i dropped that plan. But As i told earlier we Indians are much confirtable with eating with Bare Hand. Because we will be knowing how clean our hand then those spoons or forks.

Im not an indian so i prefer using spoon and fork. Im half filipino chinese so another alternative for me is dining with chopsticks. You cant compare yourself to everyone or nationality since we have different preferences and styles. =)

All depends on situation. If at home I always use chopsticks. But in Malay or Indian restaurant, I used spoon & fork and sometimes with hand.

Hi,
Well... I usually eat with a knife, spoon and fork. If what I eat is something that is usually eaten using one's hand, then that's what I do as well. I like eating pizza using my hands. Chips as well. I guess it just depends on the food that is served.

Ya i have seen most of the people eating pizza with hands, also you can include Burgers and Sandwich as many people use hands for eating these things. And its good that you prefer spoons and forks. Thats very good as people say eating with bare hands are very Unhygenic. Anyways thanks a lot for responding to this discussions. I will expect more such responses from you in future.

Eating with our bare hands is a way to enjoy eating here in the Philippines. Especially when you are with your family or friends. But more often than not we use utensils whenever we eat. But when we go out on a picnic or go swimming with friends most of the time we use our hands to eat and share the foods. It's a lot of fun. But of course when we are on a restaurant, we utilize spoon and fork and if we're on a Chinese or Japanese restaurant we use chopsticks.

Practice makes perfect. Practice more and you will surely learn to use chopsticks. It is not an easy skill to learn really but it's fun when you were able to use it properly. Happy posting!

Ha ha, That was a good sense of humar. Thanks for replying to dis discussion. Most of western contry people have this habbit of always eating food with Spoons and forks. But I think in this Subcontinent of India,Srilanka,Bangaldesh,Nepal,Tibet and Pakistan are much more into eating with hand. Any ways thanks a lot for your reply to this discussion.

Most of the time, I eat rice with the use of a spoon; at home or outside the house. During weekdays when I do have to go to the workplace, I eat rice and viand for breakfast using a spoon. I also bring along with me 'baon' consisting of rice and viand which I eat during lunch time in the company premises using a spoon.
There are times when I do eat rice with my bare hands specially during certain occasions with the family and when the foods served are more easily eaten using the hands.
For instance, if we have an occasion which we have to celebrate by the seaside, we would usually have fishes, shrimps, and crabs. Normally, these are 'hand-foods', if you know what I mean.
Sometimes at home, my husband and I do eat with our hands because we feel that the food is tastier this way. Other locals also feel this way but I guess this is quite psychological.
If I'm not mistaken, there was one instance where I ate with my hands in the office. It was a couple of years ago when we had our company's anniversary celebration and we had a 'boodle' fight. But it's very rare that we eat with fork and knife at the same time while eating.

It all depends on what i'm eating ^_^ If i'm eating noodles, i will be using chopsticks and spoon.. But if i'm eating rice, it will be fork and spoon.. When it comes to chicken chop etc, it will be knife and fork for me ^_^ But when it comes to roti prata or bread, chicken wings or other fried stuffs, i will surely be using my hands, because those things will only taste better when eating it with our hands.. haha

I think not only you most of the people in subcontinent, use this method. Depends upon what food they are eating the eating method will change.
Good that you shared your thought with me, I was expecting you to respond this discussion when i was drafting this discussion. Thanks A Lot Again.

I don't prefer eating with hands, thats why I require a spoon or a fork. Eating with hands is a bit unhygienic.

Unhygenic, Good thought. So you think those spoons are more hygenic.? You will be knowing what are things you have done with your hand but you will not be know where that spoon was lating before you eat with it. Anyways deferent people deferent culture and so many approachs. Thanks A Lot for sharing your thoughts. More thoughts are always welcome from you. :)

A lot of people here in the Philippines use their hands to eat. I don't think it is unhygienic unless you're in the habit of not washing your hands. Filipinos are generally very neat people and we always... always wash our hands before and after eating, whether we eat with our hands or with spoon and fork.

hello friend, i think it just depends on the person habit.if a man has the habit of eating with the spoon and fork,he don't have the habit of using hands to eat possibly.Because he has been familiar with using the spoon and fork.and another example, for me, nether hands nor spoon and fork is suitable to eat with. I amused to eating with chopsticks,Because from my childhood till now, i use the chopsticks to eat all the time.
I know it is so different from you.Because we are living in a different place and accept the different culture.lol
good luck

Hey there! Well it depends on what food I'm gonna eat. If it is fried chicken I'll go with my hands. I usually eat with spoon and fork.

Like you, it depends on what I am eating. For a dinner of meat and vegetables I prefer to eat with a knife and fork. For chinese food, I could never manage chopsticks so I prefer to use a spoon and a fork or sometimes I just use a fork. I like to use a fork for puddings and I use a spoon for soups and ice cream, although sometimes I make my soup in a cup and just drink it from the cup.

Good response, also it was really funny about using hands for holding spoons and forks. Ya there is no way you can eat sandwiches and burgers with spoons and forks. You have to compromise to use hands for eating those things. Otherwise you have to cut sandwiches and burgers into pieces and eat, by then i dont think people will like that. Anyways thanks for such a good response. Have a nice day.

I much prefer eating with chopsticks but if I had to choose between spoon & forks to eating with hands, I'd rather eat with spoon & forks... There are some food that just makes sense to eat with bare hands, like sandwiches, but most food I'd like to eat with utensiles

To eat by spoon and fork is otherwise a good habit form the point of view of health and cleanliness. Even the chop sticks are also of the same class. But we Indians use our hands and rather fingers for this purpose and we are so used to it that we don't get satisfaction when we use spoon and fork.
I however sometimes use spoon and fork - when my nails are extra grown and not clean.
