I am happily married to my wife, but there are ex-girlfriends that still make me get feelings of excitement. Maybe you should not give up on your ex so easily. I often wonder what would have happened it I had gotten back together with my ex- girlfriends. Does the passion you feel when you think about this person that is an ex make you feel excited or confused? When the answer is yes, then you should not have let this person become an ex in the first place. Go for it and make this person your one and only.
