Would you adopt a really ugly animal from a shelter?

My husband and I like to go to the shelters. We give money and visit the animals. There once was this really ugly cat. No front teeth so he drooled all the time, his tongue was discolored from the sun, he snorted when he breathed, he was just plain ugly. He had been there for 3 months because no one wanted him and his days were numbered.
We adopted him. It was $60 and a lot of Vet checks and grooming appointments. But he was the sweetest cat and was just happy to have a home. He peed on everything but he was worth it.
He died within 3 months.
Would you adopt an ugly animal?
What about an animal that you knew would soon die?

That is so sad but yet very touching. Thank you for sharing your story.
We have a special needs cat named Drusilla. She is deaf, is missing a few teeth, and only has one eye due to an injury that happened before we adopted her. She is very sweet though, and seems very happy.
Here is a picture of her.

what a sweet thing you did for that cat! I probably would do the same thing because I'm just a sucker for animals! Aww... your story made me sad...

Awww, don't feel sad. he had a good life before he went.
He slept in our bed, he had all the food he wanted. We got him tons of toys to play with and he had a lot of love from us all the time.

I would because looks do not matter. I love animals so I would take it in even if I knew the days were limited just to make the animal happy before they passed. I do however get very attached so it would probably kill me.

We got a lot of ugly comments about him.
We loved him because he wasn't that attractive. It was part of his charm.

I would! I think animals like that have character and for some reason, the odd animals or the runts etc seem to be even more loving than any other. When my boyfriend got pet rats I chose one. He chose a perfect looking white one which is nasty, it runs away, it tries to bite, it snatches food and it doesn't matter how much we handle her she doesn't get any better . I chose the little black and white runt with the sticking up fur who was walf the size of the others. She always comes out when we call her, she sits on my boyfriend's shoulder and rides around, she's got so much character and I'm really glad I chose her! I just love all animals and I'd be more likely to have an unusual, ugly looking one then a perfect pedigree!
