Does your dog have a personality?

I play games with my dog and have fun with him and he enjoys it immensely. I can always tell when he is smiling and happy, or wistful when he is hoping to be taken for a walk and then reproachful when he misses out on a walk for any reason. I really believe that dogs have emotions and can think. Lots of dogs are intelligent and I know that some people claim that all dog antics are just training.
Do you think that your dog is just responding to training? Or do you think that he/she has a real personality and can share a joke with you?

Of course dogs (and other animals) have emotions!!!
You come home from work, they are happy to see you. You leave for work, they are sad.
Scold them, they are sad, give them a treat, they are happy.
So yes, animals I do believe and know, animals do have emotions.

Yes they do and they get to know you and learn how to get what they want. I know our boy when its getting on in the afternoon he sits and looks at my partner with a walk please look. My partner looks at him and say it way to early so he comes to me and say dinner? lol. I have seen so many expressions and been sad so many times that I could not explain to him that he will get his treat or his walk just not now or that Master is sick and cannot take you out. He just looks sad.
I think making dogs our companions was one of the best things we ever did.

Well as for my dog. I have an akita and he is very very great with my son. He lets my son ride him like a horse and he doesnt even care. When i ask my dog to something like sit. He takes and shakes his head at me like he is saying no and when i tell him "dont let me no" he will sit. But if someone he does not know comes up to my son he will not show anger he will sit there and let them talk to my son but any closer he will start to shove them back to where he knows they will not hurt him. They said in all the books about akita's they are not a family dog which i totally disagree with.

My dog Chicka makes up games to play with her friends. Then she convinces the other dogs to play what she wants.

She's a Canaan Dog/ Saluki mix. The smartest best mix in the world. She has the best of both in her. I guess I'm slightly biased for my dog.

Hello sharral,
I definitely know my dog has her own personality, she's getting older now so doesn't like to be fussed with she likes a quiet life now and that's exactly what she has, she's a lovely, nice natured animal and I love her very much she knows all my secrets and private thoughts she always keeps them to herself and never tells a living soul..lol

My very cute yorkshire terrier named douglas is very behave, he naps all day and poo and pee at the same spot everyday. We're always alone together, so when I feel lonely and I talk to him, he listens! I swear! He bobs his head from time to time and he looks at me intently and when I ask a question, he tilts his head to one side, either left or right, as if answering!

I know that feeling. My partner walks our dog everyday and he gets most of the attention unless there is food around. Still you can tell how much your dog loves you by the way of his tail and the welcome you get when you get home after a shopping trip.

Dogs Are Not Only For Training But Also They Can Think,Express And As Well As Intelligent. If You Play,Have Fun With Him.Really I Like Dogs And I Will A Dog Something To Eat.Dogs Are Friendly If You Are Kind.Ya For Me Dogs Have A Personality But The Problem Is That Whatever A Dog Says Can't Be Understood By Human,But If You Train The Dogs,They Will Know What You're Speaking.Only If A Human Loves The Dogs Can Say What The Dog Is Thinking. There Is No Need Of Learning The Dog's Language. If You Love Your Dog You Can Understand.Because Of You're Talking About Dogs +1 For You.You Know One,I Don't Have Any Plus Ratings For Me.But I Gave More Than +25 Yesterday,Because I Joined Yesterday Only.

Welcome to Mylot. I agree that you can only understand your dog through love. I love my boy very much. He makes the day bright when he wags his tail and he has a lovely smile as well. He gets upset when we have to go out without him but the welcome when we come home is wonderful, he is so happy. I have had a dog in my life since I was born, my family has always had a dog and when that dog passed on a new one would come. I love having a dog in my life I think they are the best friends a person can have.
