governments should invest in alternative energy and fuel sources

fossil based fuels are among the causes of pollution. with global warming clearly becoming a major concern for all of us, i think its about time that governments should decisive steps in investing in alternative fuel sources. its not for lack of viable options that most of the countries in the world are heavily dependent on fossil fuel.

But how do you think this 'investment' should occur?
Subsidies per KW of energy produced through non-fossil fuel means?
Increased taxes on fossil fuel companies.
State run solar plants?
