I met a very rude driver today! He kind of spoil my day actually. Sigh. He took a detour and I merely told him "Errr, why did you go by this route? You should have go by that route, you just have to go straight and you will reach.", and he used a very loud voice and said "Are you sure go straight and you'll reach?!", so I told him "yea, go straight and turn right". Then he raised his voice further, using a very rude tone and said "This route will bring you there too!". (The coversation was in mandarin so I have to translate it here) So I kept quiet and let him drive. I am very very angry with his bad service, I am the one who is paying for his service after all. And now, because of his mistake, I had to pay more. If he spoke nicely to me I wouldn't be so angry, but he didn't! So why should I pay extra because of his mistake.
Sigh, it's damn irritating! If it's you, what will you do?

It's not my first time, I didn't lodge a complain the previous time, but now, I've learn to be smarter, I can't be paying for their mistakes everytime! Precisely, since we are paying for your service, we should be treated in a better way. If we boycott taxi, where are you going to find money?

I guess he is in a very bad mood. Probably the wife and him quarrel or something. Or probably when you told him, he realised that you were right but to save him from embarrassment he decided to raised his voice. If you are really pissed why not complain him? But complaining him is equal to breaking his rice bowl. I dont know. Probably people should be given a second chance.

It's not the first time a cab driver took a de-tour, on purpose or not, I've no idea. The thing is, if I am suppose to pay for their mistake everytime, I will be the very broke one, and my money will end up in their pocket. LOL.

This is actually very common with taxi drivers from what I've seen. I haven't had to take a taxi in a long time, but I know of more than one occasion where a driver did exactly what you said. One elderly lady in the building next to where I live refused to pay and the driver called the police. She only had to go about five blocks but he charged her such an outrageous price that she could barely afford to pay. She was on a fixed income and had no car, so she depended on taxis. I think he ended up taking all her money for the week or month from what it sounded like.
I think all taxi drivers have mental problems because even though I don't take taxis, I have problems with them. I have never seen one who was normal. I plan to avoid them at all costs unless it's an extreme emergency and there is no other way to get somewhere.

Oh my, it's sad to hear that. I pity the poor lady. I do have to say, in Singapore, not all taxi drivers are like this, there are still some nice ones. Sigh, I have to say, bad luck. Singapore is making taxi a "luxury" public transport hence they are increasing the charges every now and then.
Anyway, nice meeting you =)
