I personally do not have lupus my mother does she was diagnoised at 13 years old. I have watched for about 16 years what this has done to her. It is hard to see all the pain that she is in and all the medications that she has to take. And in the resukt of the lupus and all the medication what other problems have come of it also. Is anyone out there who has a mother that has lupus and there mothers were told that it isnt heredity and then told it was heredity. My mother was adopted and we had no idea were lupus came from and then for medical reasons my mother searched for her real mother, come to find out my grandmother has lupus and my great grandmother died from lupus. So we have no idea drs. in new york told my mother that it was not heredity and she had me and my sister, then in florida she was preganant with my younger brother and then my sister. they then told her that she may have just ruined her childrens life by passing on lupus. I am not sure about all of this and now i am a little concerened that just because i don't have it i may have passed this gene unto my 3 daughters. So not sure wondering anyone out there with the same experience

Hi. I'm sorry to hear about your family's medical history. My mother has lupus and so do I. However, it is VERY RARE for a mother to pass it on to her daughter. This of course doesn't mean it don't happen. The doctors say that they can't pinpoint exactly how it goes through the family tree and is very sporatic. Lupus doesn't usually appear until late teens. There are some things you can do to help yourself and your children. Teach them about what can bring on Lupus, which is: smoking, drinking, over exposure to sunlight, and pregnancy. This doesn't mean that just because you do these things that lupus will show up in your children, it just means that you need to avoid these things in excess. Pregnancy is not something your daughters may want to avoid, but as long as their doctors are aware of the family medical history, the doctors can watch for it to appear in them as well. Lupus can be difficult, but with proper nutrition, plenty of rest, and a positive outlook, it can be very manageable. Probably the hardest thing with lupus is that it weakens the immune system and causes you to be susceptible to other illnesses. You just got to keep up with the antibiotics. Also, arthritis is hard to deal with, but can be manageable with proper medications. Good luck and I hope you and your daughters are always healthy.

I have Lupus, I also have 2 young children. No one in my family has it. I am the only one. My children are healthy so far. I have thought about it but I just have to hope it is for the best.

Im so sorry to hear that. Yah some doctors would really say that it is not hereditary but I think you just have to be careful and better to have some check up from time to time so that you will be able to prevent yourself from having one. I think prayers would also help. God bless you and your family.
