I saw an ad in the paper for a hypnosis session in my town so my husband and I thought we would go. We both need to lose some weight so we thought why not give it a try. When we got there and the program started,(large crowd by the way) the hypnotherapist explained what getting hynotized means and that we would definitly lose weight, stop smoking, etc. Well the session got underway and according to his explanations, I think I was hypnotised but I don't really know. LOL.. I do know that I felt really good and relaxed when I left last night. I guess it remains to be seen if I lose any weight or not.
Have any of you ever been hypnotized? If so, any good results? Any bad results? Did anything change at all? Do you even believe in hypnotherapy?

Hi there Wyldrose
Well you are sure braver than me! I don't think I could do that in front of so many people and I am not sure I would be able to take it that serious especially as you were providing entertainment for others. Heaven only know's what he got you to do while you were 'under', moo like a cow, pretend you're a monkey, the tricks could be endless . Anyway if I did feel the need to see a hypnotist then I would do in the privacy of his office.

LOL..It wasn't like that at all. We were all in the same room in a group setting and he hypnotized us all at the same time. It has nothing to do with bravery. Nobody was entertaining anybody. He put us all under and told us how we can control our eating, smoking, etc. It was all legit and very informative.

hi wyldrose,
i have never been hypnotized, and i will never get myself being hypnotized. despite the good result acclaimed by the hypnotizer, it will result some undesired effects in our mind. being hypnotized means that we let others control our mind. it will make our mind weak and controllable. it will weaken our willpower and our capacity to make decision. well, sometimes hypnotism is aimed to get certain desired effect of improvement of our body and mental condition, which is called hypnotherapy. still, it's not wise to let other control your mind and subconsciousness. in some case it will be dangerous. in the hypnosis state you will never know what the hypnotizer suggests to you. and in that state your mind and subconsciousness is in such a state that you will follow whatever the hypnotizer suggest.
anyway, if you want to get some hypnotherapy, it's better if you learn about self hypnotherapy. if there is someone controlling your mind, it have to be you and not others.

NOBODY is controlling my mind except for myself. I chose to go to the hypnotist and he explained everything in detail as to what was going to happen. The only willpower I wanted weakened is the fact that I eat too many sweets and want to lose weight. If you choose not to have it done, that's great..it's a personal choice. I would definitly do it again if I had the chance.

I do not mean any disrespect, but there are a few things that you should know about hypnosis before giving out advice on the subject. First, hypnosis does not even work with the will, therefore it cannot weaken your willpower. Hypnosis works with the imagination and the subconscious. Nobody can change your will. Even in a totally unconscious state of hypnosis, your mind will only accept those suggestions that are within your moral boundaries, or within your personality to do. It CANNOT make you do anything you do not want to do.
Second, if you have ever felt "spaced out," or drove home in deep thought and didn't remember the drive, or have been so into reading a book or watching a movie that you don't even hear someone calling your name...you have been hypnotized. Hypnosis has never been proven to have an undesirable effect on the mind.
A hypnotist does not control a person's mind. That is a very common misconception. If you really want to know what hypnosis is and what it isn't, there are many books on the subject...I suggest you read up on the subject, especia;y if you are going to be giving advice about it.
It is these kinds of misconceptions and misinformation that makes people unnecessarily afraid of hypnosis.
Yes, self hypnosis is a good thing, but some people do not have the ability to focus that it takes for it to be effective, so a session or two with a hypnotherapist can help a person learn effective self hypnosis.
ALL hypnosis is self hypnosis anyway :)

I've never been hypnotized, but my brother was. He was desperately trying to quit smoking and figured it was worth a shot. Although he was successful being put under, it didn't really help him totally quit. I've read that your mind only will take the suggestion if you're 100% committed to it before they put the suggestion into place. I've known others that have had success, but then they wanted to quit bad enough. I think there's lots of people whom it works for with great success, but then there's always a few that it doesn't seem to work for. Do I believe in it? Sure, I have seen some successes with it.
