My online friends laugh if i say "Its the duty of the borrower to return the funds they borrowed". They reply, "Its your money, ask for it back. Only then i'll give it to you."
I mean, i'm embarressed to ask back money and stuff. It just sounds rude.
I just want to know your opinion. Which one is the way of the world?

You are right and your friends are wrong. You should NOT have to ask for it back. Just remember who each one of these friends are that say "Its your money, ask for it back. Only then I'll give it to you." and don't lend them anything ever in the future. Those that think like this deserve to be dragged into civil court and forced to pay back your money.

Well there is a difference between a "gift" and a "loan" if your not expecting it back or feel uncomfortable accepting it back from a friend then make it a "gift". A loan is just that - a loan, and the person borrowing the money should repay the loan to you. Your not a bank, your a friend who helped them out when they needed it. They should not take advantage of your generosity.

Thankyou. I've alrady done that a few times, just forgetting the money. The only reason i feel uncomfortable is because i feel im been taken advantage of. My friend isnt poor at all, the reason i leant him the money is because his paypal had some problems and was frozen at the time. Moreover, i did it without asking him, on my own, and thats the main reason i feel unable to ask for it back. When i did mention it, he said it was my money, and that i should ask for it back.
I guess im just in a hopeless mess.

I had the same experience. I feel bad when asking my friends to return my money, because they would have forgotten about it quickly. I suppose in today's world its not necessary to return money back if its a friend. Moreover, i know they're not asking money to just go shopping with it, they do it only if its inevitable.

Hello,Cambi! You are right if your friend has borrowed money or anything from you,it is his responsibility to come and return you in time.If the friend deviates, you have right to ask him to return the same to you as early as possible. No body should laugh at you.thanx.

I think people are a bit ungrateful when they have to wait for the "lender" to ask them to pay the money back. The lender already helped you out, why would you still put them in such an awkward position. If you have the money, pay it in time, if not, then one should talk to the lender and explain what's going on, instead of the other way around.
So I am with you. I think the borrower should not wait for anyone else to remind them to pay what they borrowed. It should be THEM who should make the proper steps to pay up. Otherwise, the borrower is disrespecting the other person involved in a way.

i agree with your opinion too! when we lend some money or something to someone, that's already a great help to them, even when we are also not in a good situation. but borrowers dont consider about ourselves, they forget or are not willing to return back what they have borrowed. at this case, we feel embarrassed if we ask them to return back. but we do need them in urgent, sometimes even cause lots of trouble to us. so the borrowers should have the idea that they take the responsibility to return back what they borrow in time.
