I read the bible, and I haven't read ALL of it, because when I get to books like Numbers or Ruth, or other stories that I think aren't as entertaining, or, more confusing to understand, I end up skipping through them and not going back. What are ways to read the "boring" parts of the bible without falling asleep after 3 minutes of reading . And, What are your favorite books in the bible?

I think it is very refreshing to hear others talk about reading the Bible. I have found that thinking about the reason for it being written can be of help in developing a desire to read it. You know, the same way understanding why we need food can help us to eat healthy, understanding why we have the Bible, can help us to develop the right attitude towards reading it, and finding the benefits therein. (Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:16,17)
All humans have a spiritual need, as is seen in our quest to find answers to questions such as why are we here, and what is the future for man and the earth. However, we were not born with an automatic desire to serve God. It is something we must develop, the way we must develop the taste for healthy foods. But we must first be conscious of the need for that kind of food, and the value our bodies will gain from eating it. After that, we now have to make a determined effort to develop a desire for it. (1 Peter 2:2,3)
Here are a few suggestions I have come accross, for making the reading a bit easier and more interesting: (GENESIS) - To learn about the origin of life. (EXODUS to DEUTERONOMY) - The history of ancient Israel. (JOSHUA to ESTHER) - Action-packed accounts. (JOB, PSALMS, SONG of SOLOMON) - Moving poetry and song. (PROVERBS, ECCLESIASTES) - Wisdom for living. (ISAIAH to MALACHI and REVELATION) - Prophecy and moral guidance. (MATTHEW to JOHN) - Jesus' life and teachings. (ACTS) - The establishment and spread of Christianity (ROMANS to JUDE) - Letters to the congregations of first century Christians.

And now I know that it isn't just going to pop up at me, I have to feedmy desire to serve God, and develop it in my heart and soul. You have put things in a very unique perspective for me and I thank you very much for it!

Reading the Bible is Not for FUN actually. First Question, why should we read the BIBLE? We Should and Must read the BIBLE because IT IS GOD'S WORD TO US. [2 Timothy 3:16] says that the Bible is "God Breathed". The BIBLE is totally reliable and without error. If you receive a "Letter" from a Loved One, will you feel bored reading it again and again? I hope not! If you love God you'll never feel bored reading the BIBLE. JESUS said If you know the truth then the truth shall set you free. Here's some ideas on how to read, Read Psalms everyday even if you've finished reading the whole book of Psalms repeat again and again everyday. Read Proverbs till the end of Old testament. Then start with Matthew till Revelation. Read 1 chapter a day, then you'll not feel bored. 1 chapter in Psalms, 1 chapter in Proverbs. Then continue till the end. Done! God Bless You.

THANK YOU very much!!! This is an excellent way to get through the bible! I love your method because it lets me skip to my favorite books (proverbs and psalms) and also read the parts that are harder for me, like the old testament!
Also, the way that you put it, it's like a Love Letter from God, how BEAUTIFUL for you to say that I think it's a GREAT analogy! And to read it like I need food, just simply well put! Thank you So much for your wonderful advice!

I havent read the entire Bible either. Its not that i find it boring, its just that i cant make myself pick it up.
I first started really reading it, when my hindu friends requested me to bring to Bible to class and read it for them. I want interested in the Bible, but reading it for them during the breaks, somewhere outside under a tree, were one of the best moments of my life.
Now i've moved to college, and we dont have that kind of time anymore, and now we've been separated as well. The school was a Catholic school, but the college is ordinary.
I've found the best way to read the Bible is to randomly take a page and read a few verses. And that too in a smaller version of the Bible. The real, big, black book, i cant understand much, and wont make sense if you read it from some random page.

yeah, I usually find myself in Proverbs reading all the little verses, they're short simple and sweet. I enjoy reading the bible out loud during car rides and other things like that as well. I enjoy reading out loud anything, really! Thank you for your response!

Reading and understanding the Bible should not be literal. Many ways of understanding it? Attend a Bible study, different interpretations can be discussed during this time by an expert. Or read it while also having the book Interpretres Guide to the Bible, this book is used by the students of theology and the theologians themselves. This guide is written by scholars and theologians.

Thank you very much! Yes, the bible I have is called a life aplication study bible, and it has interpretations and everything in it, but it's still hard for me to read some of the stories, because I don't find them entertaining, or have a desire to learn about a part of time for a specific historical character.
