ChildHood Habits (Gone & Forgotten)

When I was younger, or when I was growing up I used to suck my thumb, my family tried everything in the world to stop me from doing this but never could, I was well into my teens when I stopped, I don't remember the age, the only reason I stopped was when I got some dental work done on my two front teeth. It just wasn't the same feeling after that. Did you have any childhood habits when you were growing up? For example: sucking your tongue, playing with your ear, twisting your hair?

My childhood habit was biting my fingernails. I stopped when I swallowed some and they scratched down my throat. It was a very unpleasant feeling.

My daughter has this habit of sucking her thumb from the time she was born. She is now 17 years old but still sometimes I wake up at night to see her thumb in her mouth. Though she does not do this in the daytime.

Okay, I remember when I was a kid I used and loved to eat paper, I do know and My Mother tried everything to stop me because during eating time, I don't have any appetite anymore! Mom will kept all the papers out of my reach but I can always find one and will hide eating it..hahaha...sounds like a rat! But, I can remember those times really! Good thing not until this moment..hahahhaha![/i]

I had two habits: chewing on the ends of my hair and biting my nails. I started cutting my hair short which broke the first habit. I broke the second habit when I broke a tooth and couldn't see a dentist for awhile. The pain stopped me.

I think thumb sucking is a common one for children, and a lot of families have difficulty in stopping them. I can remember my mum putting all kinds of fould tasting things on my thumb to try and make me stop and nothing worked. I am ashamed to say that even now if i'm really tired or in bed my thumb finds t's way up to my mouth without me even realising it!! I guess some habits are just impossible to break! xxxx

This may sound strange...but I picked my lips. You know when they get chapped and rough, well i guess I didn't like the feel of them so I would just pick the skin off. I did stop for a while in my 20's, maybe a few years even - but I've been going at it strong as ever for at least the last decade! I cant stop, it's an actual addiction for me! I'll pick 'em until I sometimes get blisters! The worst part of it is now my 8 year old does it too. Then I become a hypocrite and tell him not to!! HAHA

i was very quiet. i rarely talked. and i picked at my face, probably when i get nervous. i grew up with many thumb suckers, including one of my brothers. they all had a hard time quitting. they all sucked their thumbs until high school when they got braces, and some continued to suck their thumb with braces. i used to give them a hard time about it, telling them if they dont stop, they will never get their braces off, and they will be the oldest people with braces on. old and wrinkled and wearing braces because they refuse to stop sucking their thumb. i think they eventually stopped.

I never sucked my thumb or played with my hair or ears. Am sure I did something, but do not know what, and no one in my family can remember me doing anything like this. But many members of my family did growing up. My sister still twists her hair when she is tired, and both of her kids do it too. Funny how some people do and some don't. Feelings of insecurity, or security as necessary to the young I would guess.

Well, up to now I still have a bad habit and I just don't know how to stop it.. I tried to stop it many times already but i just can't.. Hope anyone can help me.. I have a bad habit of biting my nails especially if I'm not doing anything, or when i feel scared, worried or even bored.. I really hate it.. I tried to stop it but I just couldn't stop it.. Actually, sometimes I am not aware that I already bite again my nails until my mother or father told me to stop it.. I'm already 20 years old and I'm still doing it.. You know what, I'm so ashamed to let people show my hands since I don't have a beautiful hands because my nails are very short.. This is one of my bad habit that I just can't let it go..Does anyone of you know how could I stop it?? Hope you can help me..

I never really had too much of a problem with sucking my thumb or even biting my nails however when I was about six years old I had a problem with spitting out bad words at random. It would land me in trouble. Of course that habit I grew out of in time and I am not sure why I did it. I think that I might have had a nervous condition. I actually had some obsessive compulsions which to this day I still do but I don't take any prescriptions for that.

Hi Chevee, I have been sitting here trying to remember what habit I had when I was a child, but for the life of me I cannot remember, but I do remember my baby brother used to carry a little pillow and plays with the corner of the pillow, but just cannot remember what I did. Tamara

Yes, chevee I was a thumb sucker too! But I gave it up alot younger than my teens. But my brother didn't. He was still sucking his thumb into his teens. I don't think I had any other habits that I can remember. I did bang my head against the wall when I was little. I don't know why but I kind of remember that, but I was really young. I don't think I twisted my hair but I'm not sure about that either. So I'll just leave it at the thumb sucking and I don't know what age I finally stopped, but I was still pretty young.

Hi Chevee. Yes, I had a childhood habit of sucking my thumb too. I used to like to sit and suck my thumb with my finger over my nose. I don't remember what age I quit but I think it was when I was in Elementary school. My kids all sucked their thumbs too. I never liked using the pacifier when they were babies. They quit when they were still young and only did it when they were tired or going to sleep.

I used to chew on my hair, or the collar of my shirt, and bite my nails. I stopped the chewing, but I don't remember how or why. As far as my nails, well, I don't really bite them anymore, I just pick at them whenever I am upset or nervous. I guess some habits are just too hard to break.

When I was a boy I used to hang on the moving vehicles' back like a monkey. I was so adventurous that I even tried climbing the back of huge truck or something that has to do with asphalt. Very funny am I that I even climb walls but sorry not in a tree coz of insects. Im scared of creapy crawlers especially if its crawling crazely fast.
