Portal to Somewhere

You discovered a portal/doorway hidden in your house. You also find out that this only leads to just ONE place/country/state/area and you get to choose for yourself. Where would you want that portal to lead you? I know this calls for imagination but I'm going to put some limits on how you base such location.
1) It should be an actual, physical place. No moon, no other planet, purgatory, hell, heaven or any fictitious place. It should exist in the world map.
2) You only have ONE day per month to spend in that place then you get transported back to your house and daily life.
3) You don't need to go through customs and immigration. Through this portal, people in that location you choose think you are legally allowed to be there.
So where would you go? And what would you do during that whole day?
I choose to go to Palawan in the Philippines. I haven't been there but I know I will spend most of the day relaxing, drinking pina colada, swimming and hopefully watch the sunset at that end of the day.

I would go to Goa!!! But I probably would never come back and they would have to send the portal police after me or something... who of course would never find me because I am such a !!!

My hair is past my butt and very thick... I have never counted the brush strokes it takes to brush it out, but certainly there are fewer if I catch it early. What has helped me with this is last year I had not brushed my hair in a few months. I know you are probably going to think I am insane, and I certainly look a little insane when it is all matted and hanging in dreadlocks, but the time I am telling you about was very extreme. I almost had to cut all my hair off! It took me 2 weeks to get it brushed out, my friend even helped. Now one side of my hair is way thinner than the other side because that is the side I slept on most often I guess and it had the worst mats. Anyway, that was such a grueling and scary ordeal that I never go months anymore but I just can't seem to get in the habit of brushing it every night. I am getting close to the weekly thing though.
Yeah, that site gives you a preview of the book. I am on dial-up right now and downloading a movie that is almost finished, but in the meantime my connection is PAINFULLY slow! I have bookmarked the website and will read it when the movie finishes. I'm looking forward to it... I love daydreaming!

Nah, I'm not a rule breaker... I am a rule ignorer. Unless the rule serves my purpose, which right now I can't think of one that does. Oh... I thought of one! I made a rule for myself that I have to brush my hair at least once a week, but even that one I don't always follow, and I really want to because like right now my hair is all dreadlocky because I ignored that rule for too long.
Thanks for the link, but considering the fact that I am unemployed right now I probably won't be buying the book... I will just have to wing it when I get there, hehehehe... I'm pretty good at winging it though, so not to worry!

Maybe you can do a certain number of brush strokes on your hair, if that helps.
I think that site allows you to preview the book, maybe you get to read a few pages off it. I'd like to go to a country and see places not mentioned on a guide book. Sometimes, the places that are not tourist traps are the best places to go to. That's when you really get to see what the country is like. I remember your India experience so I think you'll be fine without the book!

Rats, I was going to answer Narnia LOL. Honestly, I don't really know! My sister's answer is inside the bank vault LOL.
Wait, do we get stuff for free or are we talking about real world operation?
If we get stuff for free, then my answer is our local Toys R Us. I've been trying to complete the MyMelodake puffy keychains for a while now and I only need one more. If I could just spend even just one day there and get all the free tokens I can get, I would work that toy dispenser until it coughs out the purple one. Then I'd be happy.
If there' no free stuff, I would probably say Hong Kong Disneyland, but the portals go directly inside it, so I won't have to spend for tickets to go in.

Lol. I like your way of thinking, mymelodake. I think I would like to go with real world operation. But since I didn't say anything about getting free stuff, then I'd let you have your portal direct you to Toys R Us. And yes, I don't think you need to buy tickets for Disneyland if the portal transports you there in the middle of the park.
thank you for not sticking with narnia.

Hello checapricorn... I went to Baguio with a friend in 2001. We went horseback riding, checked out Burnham Park and the military place. I'd say it was a very good trip and I hope you get to go there too with your family. Thanks!

I think it would be really neat to discover a portal hidden in my parents house and that it would allow me to one place of my choice,I would probably choose to go to Paris France so that way me and my fiance go could to one of the most romantic cities in the world without having to fly,and maybe we could go each month on our anniversary so that way our anniversaries would always be romantic, and I think she would like that to.

I actually like this reasoning. Also, since I didn't specifically say that ONLY you can use that portal, I'm allowing you to take your fiancée along with you to one of the most romantic places on earth. Thanks, Cowboy!

Wow Anne! I don't know! I think I would want to go to
one of the Carribean Islands or Hawaii! I don't know
because I've never been anywhere! It would have to
be someplace warm, blue water, white sand and lots
of pina coladas just like you mentioned! I'm not
real good on geography so I would have to do some
research before I gave my final answer! Can I have
a life line please Anne?

That's pretty cool, Opal. Did you ask her if the song was based on real life? Heheh.
I just think it's a funny and upbeat song even if it's about trying to cheat on one's partner.

Lol. You can use whatever reality game show "help" there is available, Opal. Either the Caribbean Islands or Hawaii would be fine too. I bet I would be enjoying Oahu right now if I'm there.

For me SaintAnne the decision concerning where this doorway leads is a very easy one! It would lead straight to my children. One a month I would get to spend a whole day with them wherever they may be and not have to put up with the excruciatingly long absences I have had from them for the last 3 - 4 years. For me this would be the ultimate dream! I don't know exactly what I would do the entire day with them but there would be a LOT of hugging for one!

How old are your children, James, if you don't mind my asking?
Well, with the answer you gave, I now like to have this portal as real. As I've told drannhh (post#2), another reason why I chose Palawan in the Philippines because in my head, I would be calling my dad in the Philippines ahead and have him meet me there.

Well, in your case, I hope that the portal is open 365 days a year so you get to see your little kids anytime you want and as regularly as you want.

I wanna go to Palawan too! I'm in the Philippines but I haven't had the opportunity to visit all the great places here in my own country. I would have to take a complete tour of all the beautiful spots here in the Philippines everyday using the portal. Then my next destinations would be all the romantic and beautiful places in Europe. Shucks! This is so exciting! I hope this would come true! LOL! Well, I'll definitely spend the whole day touring, tasting great food, trying on great clothes and jewelry (hmmm.. I hope I have money for shopping) and take lots and lots of pictures!

Hahaha! Once a month! I was so excited I thought I will be doing this everyday! LOL! Well, I'll have Palawan this month so I'll definitely see you there. Hehehe! Europe can wait for me on the next months to come...

See you in Palawan, maple_kisses. But remember, you only get to use the portal once a month and you can only go to just ONE place. So you have to make a choice between Palawan and Europe. Enjoy!

I don't think I would need a portal to act on that choice nor have to limit it to just one place, because I cannot think of any country that is illegal to visit that I would want to break into nor do I think going through customs would be a sufficient bother to keep me out of any place I wanted to visit.
The only barriers I can think of would be difficulty communicating well in languages other than those I already understand, so that would be the limiting factor. It would be easier to say which countries I would choose NOT to visit, but I would not want to name those for fear of hurting the feelings of the nice people who live there.
Although Palawan would not be my first choice out of all the beautiful places in the world, I agree that it is breathtaking and I've never met an archipelago I didn't like :-)

I want to hold that bearcat! But I have to make sure I have nothing food-related near me. I don't want my hand chomped off!
This is where I actually want to go... http://www.elnidoresorts.com/index.htm
Just imagine that's me sitting in that picture looking at the water.
Another reason I choose Palawan because it's in the Philippines and maybe I call my dad to join me there when I sneak into that portal and then I see him on that other side.
Yes, I think it'll be safer for both of us to NOT mention countries where we do NOT want to go.

Specifically I'd like to go to New Zealand. It's got mountains, valleys, farms, beaches, big cities all within a few hours of each other. I would definatly need a portal as DH is terrified of flying & absolutly refuses to go anywhere since 9/11.

Hello 3SnuggleBunnies... I've never thought of New Zealand in that way and your reason is very convincing. You have a variety of places there that you could go to within a day. Hmmm. I'm actually tempted now. If I get tired of the beach, then what?
I also have some fear of being on a plane. You do need a portal because it takes a LOT of hours to get to NZ.

Welcome evilkid14 to myLot. I've only been to Oahu and I loved it! And that's only one part of Hawaii so I'm pretty sure that you would like it too if you go to any one of the islands. And yes, you can do a circle tour of the island in a day! But I bet you're just going to spend most of it surfing and swimming! Thanks!

I would go home. I've been living in a different state the last couple of years, have been overseas, but none of it has ever felt as good the place I come from. Painesville ohio. And I know that it will probably be a long time before I can move back, and all my family is there. So as the last response said that we could take others, I would take my children that one day to see family they never get to see.

Hello cgobble. Welcome to myLot!
Well, I hope you enjoy your day a month at Painesville, Ohio through this portal. And again, since I didn't specify that only YOU can go through the portal, I'll let you take your kids with you so they can enjoy spending time with the family back home.
