Why do cats run up on you and scream loudly? What are they saying?

Today my big cat has been all bent out of shape over something. He doesn't like change. But, today I cleaned out the laundry room and moved everything around. That was a big change. I think it really bothered him. And, now he won't shut up. He keeps ambushing me. He'll run up suddenly when I'm not expecting him and scream loudly. It really sounds like screaming. It's not just purring. Does your cat ever do that? What are your tips for calming an agitated cat?

My cat does this to me all the time when I am on the phone with my husband, because in his mind I am not paying enough attention to him. LOL It drives him nuts that I'd rather talk to my husband while petting him than devote all of my attention entirely to the cat. LOL

Mine is the same way. He's super jealous of my time and energies!

When you moved stuff around did you by any chance take away a place he liked to sleep or sit, or take away his access to a place he liked to be? We did that the other day with one of my cats and he was not a happy camper. He's gotten over it now but for the first couple of days he spent a lot of time standing by the spot he could no longer get to and just yelling about it. If it's something like this with your cat he'll probably calm down in a day or two. If he keeps going on it could be that there's something wrong with his health and you might want to have him checked out.

Yep! I moved his cat litter box to a new location in the laundry room. He must have been really mad about that. Had not thought about that. Thanks!

lol :) how funny is that! I'm sure it's not fun to deal with but it is funny to hear about. My cat never does this ~ nor do the kittens. They make noises , purring, meowing, etc. but they never run up to me and scream! I bet the cat is mad that you changed things up!

that's probably it-you altered his world and he's angry. my blue used to cuss at me every time i moved.he didn't like having to learn a new house over again. i would try to distract him with toy play.that usually worked for mine.

Hello dear beauty queen. It is interesting to know this about the cat of yours with this kind of behaviour. I think that you might have made him unhappy with the movement of the stuff in the room, which is not what he expected? I guess that he is happy with the previous state? Anyway, I wish him to get used to it soon. Good luck to him.

I don't think anyone really knows why a cat screams like that however, to be on the safe side, I'd talk to my cat and see if they go into another room in which I'd follow in case it's trying to tell me something and if that's not it then I'd think it was hungry and give it something to eat and if that isn't it then I'd pick it up and cuddle with it and talk sweet nothings to it so it would know that what ever is bothering it, it all will be ok. That's the best thing to do for a cat who's obviously so upset is giving it reassurance that all is going to be ok.

I have heard that cats get that way because of change, or because of the loss of another pet. Just recently I was looking at pet supplies at Wal Mart, and saw that there was a new item called a cat calming spray. You may need to get some of that. I do not know what else to tell you.
