Without a shadow of doubt, the older Dumbledore was better than the current one. The older Dumbledore brought respect and grace to the role. The newer one seems hasty and too dramatic for the role.
Unfortunately, the sad demise of the older Dumbledore meant that someone else had to fit in his place.
Cheers!

Richard Harris fit the complete description of Dumbledore and the best I liked was the way he looked at Harry with twinkling eyes. I think he was the best of the whole lot who perfectly fit with the characterisation of the whole story. The next person who actually brings out the actual character would be Alan Rickman(Severus Snape). But I really miss the old Dumbledore so much, I tend to watch the first two movies more than the rest that have come out. Pity they couldn't get someone better... but I guess finding someone with ""Twinkling eyes"" in that age should have been quite a task for the producers. So, we will just try to accept what Michael Gambon can give us. We will always have our imagination to help us although watching a better guy do it in the movies is so satisfying... anyway, I guess we can't help it. Even if they change someone else for the character now, we don't know how much people can buy into it.

I would have to agree, but unfortunately the role had to go to an new actor. The whole being alive thing is rather important. :) When I watch the movies, I try to keep an open mind and try to appreciate the performance of the new actor.
