*laughing* this is a great topic. my answer is simple - football is a sport that tends to be hyped up by men and professionally only played by men. therefore, most men feel that women have no place in the sport other than on the sidelines in short skirts with their chests hanging out, jumping and screaming and making a mockery of themselves.
in an ideal world, i would love to see a woman become the head coach of a professional football team. there are many women that i know who know a great deal about the game, who subscribe to the football packages on television, who play in their spare time, etc. but do i think it'll ever happen? no.

I agree gender shouldent be an issue. The sad truth is it does.

I think a woman could do it, but not for long and not very well. Coaching is really tough on emotions, and men, who have few emotions, can handle it much better than women can. It is also very aggressive, and very few woman have that aggressive nature about them. I don't think that it would work for the players because if they screwed up, they might be yelled at by the coach, and it wouldn't be much of a punishment if the huge male players are yelled at by a woman who is probably much smaller than them.

Have you even met a woman? Do you have any idea of how aggressive women really are? I think the while emotion things might even be a good thing although I don't actually agree that men have less emotion. I know the local football teams near me, the men are the ones who cry when they lose! And apart from that, the women are often better players!

Timinator as valid as your response is and to some point I agree. I also agree with pumpkinjam. There are many women out there who can be just as agressive if not more agressive than men and could handle being a coach of a pro football team.

I don't see any reason why not. I think it's more tradition than anything else that they don't ie. women traditionally don't play or like football but I know women now who enjoy it as much as men. So yes, if they know the game and they are willing to take the rap which will inevitable come along with being a female coach then yes they can do it.

I agree with you totally. It is more tradition than anything else. There are tons of women who know the game betterthan men do and are just as passionate about it if not more than men.
