Well that would have to be the top bargain, I do find it hard to believe unless someone who has more money than sense just wanted to create a headline and was willing to sacrifice a house to do it...

I searched for the article about it, here is a link to the article http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/oct/01/woman-buys-home-ebay-175/ She has to pay $850 in back taxes on it the house is in foreclosure so not sure how that will all work out. She is going to try to sell the house. I would neve have bought it not even for $1.75!

Yeah, it's possible. She had to pay back taxes on it, but not much. The house was abandoned and I think they lady said she couldn't even go look at it. I doubt it's livable. I used to live in Michigan and land and houses are really cheap, especially in some areas. It's possible that she got a broken down house on an undesirable piece of land.

Wow. That is good, LOL. She got one heck of a deal. I wander if it is made of toothpicks though? That is just sounds too good to be true.

I read that to0 - made me think - hey, why not? Have all these banks put up homes on ebay or other online sales place so they can reach a much wider clientel for possible buyers. Why not? Try something new - what they just did, didn't work why keep doing it? And since lot of people are looking to move out of populate areas (or maybe into populated areas!) in other states, why not give it a try? I don't know why she bought it if she says she isnt going to move to MI, and it looked like it needed alot of extrerior work - maintenance really, to fix it up to re-sell like she says she is going to do, but sure looked like it was a cute little house for retirement! Rent it out now, and retire in it later!

I saw this too this morning! My goodness, it's hard to believe. What's harder to believe is that the seller didn't put a minimum on the bids. I mean, the land itself has got to be worth way more than $1.75! I just read a short blurb on it and didn't get the full scoop, so maybe there's a ton of back taxes on it, and back bills (water, sewage, etc.) that fit into the equation. I know the housing market is a buyers market, and not a sellers market, but $1.75 is just insane!

back taxes due are $850 - still a good deal but nothing said about the interior status.....

I read the article I think its because of its in some poverty stricken area and due to fallen economy. It looks like a bad deal and I wonder how can you even bid for a home you have never seen and never visited the place itself.Nice news though and I followed the link too. I wonde if we can get a house that cheap somewhere near my place. Here the prices are so high that you can not even hope to buy one some day.

Looks like she should take a bulldozer and mow it down. Doesn't look like something that is worth fixing up. That is a bargin, $850 in taxes is a small price to pay.

It's hard to believe that spending USD1.75 to buy a house. If there is such a chance, I will buy it, too:) I love China

Not completely impossible. In my hometown there was and estate auction and no one show up except one person. It went for $1. The catch was that there was $5000 in back tax charges. Still for $5001 he got a house. He fixed it up and sold it for about $40,000 the next year. Sounds like a good investment to me.

hahaha!!! $1.75 for a house? wow!! If that's really true, I can buy a couple from my mylot earnings.. Seriously, How in the world it happened? Unbelievable. I could not imagine that a house is cheaper than a pair of pants. But if the back taxes is that high, it is something reasonable. I just hope the house is still intact.

Did you see the house, what a piece of junk. She also has to pay some back taxes on the place as well as the yard clean up that the city is charging so it will cost her I think around 900 bucks they said. plus it is almost the end of the year and she will again have to play the property taxes on the place. it was really an awful looking place and I can't imagine they would do anything to it but tear it down and just have the property. So was it really a good deal even for such a little price? Who knows, seems like an awful lot of trouble really.

Hello marciascott I don't think this story is what it seems to be I mean the news doesn't seem to have hit the UK yet and I am sure I would have heard this by now on the radio but haven't as yet!

I don't know if I believe that or not. LOL, that's laughable, and also sad if true. Where did you read this? I can't imagine anyone selling their house for that. Seriously!

Did you see the photos of it?? It is tiny, has been condemned, junk all round it and she has to pay $850.00 in back taxes and get it cleaned up. As I do know why she bought it I can only say I would never have taken it even if they had paid ME $500.00 to get it off their hands

i just read that too and i find it just so funny! and just a great deal. i think she has to pay some back taxes of $800 but she still got a great deal. if she was smart she should invest a few thousand to fix it up and sell it.
