How old are you when they first cut your hair?

I was wondering this since here in my country they say that a baby's hair should not be cut unless he turns one year old. My kids hair did not grow that much so it is not a problem to me, in fact when they turn a year old, they were still bald.
but now that they are getting bigger, their hair is getting thicker too. Just yesterday we went to barber shop for my hubby's hair, and since my second born hair is thick already I let the barber cut it too. This is his first time (he is three) and he is kinda afraid. I have to hold his hands and just stand beside him.
How about you guys?
how old are you when you first cut your hair?
and how old are you when a professional barber cut your hair?

lol =D That was so long time ago that i cant really remember it anymore.. lol =D But i do know for sure that, i'm older than 2-3 yrs old b4 i get my 1st hair cut.. BEcause my 1st hair cut is done by my mom.. lol =D ANd when it gets too ugly, she has no choice but to bring me to a cheap barber which is quite some distance away.. And that's the place whereby i had my haircut for 7 yrs b4 i changed to a new saloon.. hehe
And in the 1st place why my mom will bring me there, is because alot of other kids are having their haircuts there, and there's free flow of sweets to keep us down during the hair cut.. lol =D

I think I was in kindergarten about 6-7 years old when I got my first cut of my hair. It was pretty funny actually whenever I saw a picture of mine in those age, it was kinda a pageboy cut which is a longer version of a bob, typically worn with bangs and below chin length. I always ask my family why I have that kind of hairstyle, kinda Dora the explorer. Sometimes when my older sister saw my old pictures having that kind of hairstyle, she always called me as Dora and tease me that I look like Dora when I have that cut and teased me to cut my hair like that again.

Hi pehpot, we Chinese people here at Malaysia, believe that the hair of a new born baby would grew more thicker and robust, if it has the first bald head cut before the a month old celebration.
I still remember before the “a month old celebration” a barber was invited to our house to cut the hair of my son. My little boy looked really cute and lovely in his new bald head look We then gave the barber a red packet with money in it to thank him. Red boiled egg and sour ginger vinegar trotter soup are a must dishes for the dinner, to celebrate and to wish the new born baby growing up healthy and brightly.
Of course, every baby has to have its bald head cut before the said celebration, no matter it is a girl or a boy baby. So I am very sure I had my first hair cut a day before I was a month old. My mom cut the hair for me during my childhood.
I had my first hair cut at the hair saloon a week before the first day I stepped in the doorway of the middle school. It was really amazing to see my lovely first look of new hair style and the kindly smiling professional lady barber as well from the big rectangular mirror at the salon. I loved and happy indeed with my new appearance.
posting and have a nice day.

hi pehpot,
My Mom told me I got my first haircut when I was two years old. My hair didn't grow as fast as I was so she did not have to worry about getting it cut until it was time to have one. lol.
This is a nice discussion. I love asking Mom about my childhood experiences (like first haircut) and she would reminisce and tell me and we would talk endless. hope you have a nice day.

i honestly don't know when. my mom cannot remember either figures where i got my amnesia from. runs in the family. i know that tradition, that children's hair should not be cut before they turn a year old, but i cannot understand the reason behind it. superstitious belief, if you ask me. if svet had long hair by now, i'd have it cut no matter what they say. unfortunately, she is still half bald, so there's no need to worry that i might break old traditions.
i'm not back yet. i am just in a shop. can't stand being away from myLot for long. hee hee

Now i dont remember that ;D. but with my baby, although at 1 year old his hair is thin, we still let the barber cut it to "kalbo" because they say that if we frequently cut it so it will grow thicker. but until now he is not comfortable with long hair.

I don't remember when. I don't care much about how I look and I think my guardians is not too. As you say we have that certain belief that a kid' hair should not be cut unless it turns a year old, so I think my first cut was not less than I was a year old. Your boy is cute.
I have watched on TV before that there are certain minority in Benguet province that when a kid had their first hair cut, it was celebrated like a feast. Isn't that great?
Now that I am older I always took my hair for granted. I just tie it in a bun and I am not keen on taking care of it. Your post reminds me that I am needing a haircut for months now.
Have to finish mylot time soon and off I go to a salon.
