halo-halo or what we make fun of calling mix-mix is a popular Filpinio dessert that is a mixture of shaved ice with milk (condensed/evaporated)& sugar to which various ingredients are added and served cold in a tall glass or bowl. there is no specific recipe for this dessert, you can add boiled beans & fruits such as white or black beans, garbanzos, kaong, macapuno or fresh buko meat, langka (jackfruit), sago, nata de coco, ube (purple yam), kamote (sweet potato), corn, pinipig, leche flan, ice cream, gelatin, fruits such as melon, apple, banana (sweetened or fresh), etc etc etc.
the list goes on & on & it's actually a mix & match for others (taste preference).
i know it's rainy season & halo-halo is popularly known during summer. but we do have Chowking where we can order it anytime of the year right..? so going back, with the above mentioned, do you still have other ingredients in mind that you add in your halo-halo? and what is your favorite ingredient?

when we had a canteen, i would prepare my own halo-halo... which is good because i dont eat all of the ingredients. so i like, macapuno, sago, gulaman, saging (sweetened), halaya (ube) pinipig, corn, leche flan, and ice cream (only when its available)... yum-yum! :)

same here, my cousin used to put up a mini stall infront of the house during summer & i could get those that i only eat. i admit Chowking's halo-halo is yummy & is convenient to have us serving halo-halo all year, but then my friend is the one benefiting the ingeredients that i don't eat like the beans, haha!

I love halo-halo anytime of the year. I like also the Chowking halo-halo but I always the some of the ice out. I love fruit(fresh) halo-halo too. I just don't like the beans because of my arthritis hehe.

i think every filipinos love halo-halo... i'm waiting for someone who will actually tell that they don't like it. haha.. sandymay, i actually have tried to enumerate all possible halo-halo ingredients & i'm still lacking.. some of our fellow mylotters actually enumerated those that i haven't included, especially fruits. indeed halo-halo is the best & so yummy! i know in other countries with filipino communities, they have it there as well.

i haven't tried & heard of halo-halo with lychee before. is it the fresh fruit of the canned ones? but sounds delicious since i love lychees. someone told me bacolod restaurants are great. although i haven't been there, i would love to visit & try your delicacies. i'll take note if imay's restaurant. :)

My favorite ingredients of halo halo is the sago at gulaman and the leche plan. Not to mention that 2 scoop of ube icecream and lots of milk will make the halo halo cremier and sweeter. I dont like buying icecream at chowking or any fastfood though. Halo halo were mixed with too much ice that makes it not appetizing at all. Id rather make my own halo halo than buy one unless i dont really have a choice and i really need a refreshment right away.
