Perhaps one of the best free Anti-Virus programs?

How many of you have heard of Avira AntiVirus? I would have to say that it is one of the best AV programs on the net! I am amazed at how well it works! It is completely free, and features a Real-Time scanner that scans your computer 24/7. It constantly updates(usually when I am deep into a game :D), so the definitions are always up to date. I love the fact that when a virus/suspected object is found, it lets you delete/rename/ignore the item immediately, without having to wait for a long scan to complete fully. Maybe I am wrong; Maybe it isn't the best. I am, however, a computer repair-person, and have saved many computers with it. Having a small "business" with a limited income, I would suggest Avira every time! But what are your thoughts on it? Maybe you know a better one? I would ask that you actually TRY Avira before you tell me that you know of a better one. Let's see what your thoughts are...

I dont think avira can be able to detect all kinds of viruses....Even AVG is providing free editions but free editions doesn't offer full system protection....I recommend using AVG internet security or Computer associates antivirus

Hi viri, No offense, but did you not fully read my post? I kindly asked that you list a comment/opinion about Avira AFTER you have used/tried it. You are, however, right about AVG, although Avira DOES offer full system protection and cleaning, not just scanning. I have an entire post on it on my blog page if you want to read it - www.zpcrepair.blogspot.com . Once again, though, I ask that you actually TRY Avira - Believe me, you won't regret it.

Hi tousif, you are right; BitDefender is a fantastic AV also. I used that too. Ever heard of RegRun ReAnimator? That's another tool I use. It works extremely well, almost to well. Thanks for your opinions!

Yeah Avira is making noise in the antivirus industry. I haven't tried it and I have seen in one of our laptops here in the Office. Currently, we are on Kaspersky. kaspersky is quite a bit strict when checking for virus too. But sometimes their security is overly protective already and the way they eat up the memory is quite high too.

Hi rsa, nice to hear your comments about Kaspersky. It is a great virus scanner, but you are right; It takes up a load of resources. I enjoy using Avira because that is what it doesn't do - Use many resources. The scanning does use it's fair share, but not as much as others. It is semi-strict, and even found a few safe apps, but you can "deny access" for the scanner to read these files/programs. If you use macro-apps like macros and macro-recorders, it may pick those up as "keyloggers" but don't be alarmed. They are usually safe. Nevertheless, check the virus database, as it may tell you about the "virus" and what it does. Although it picks up macros, I am glad it does, since once I had downloaded a rogue macro-recorder without knowing it. Thankfully, Avira scans things that are downloaded as soon as they are finished, so I knew even before I closed my browser. Hope it works for you!

Hello ananth, glad to hear that you are interested in Avira. It may seem a little tricky at first, but do try it. I can assure you that you will like it. Mcafee is alright, but I never found it as "sweet tasting". I never liked it, and sometimes found it a hassle. Once thing I forgot to mention is that Avira has a virus database, and you can see what viruses are on your computer and what they do. Hope you like it!
