Do You Always Ask Something When You Pray?

I always find time to pray everyday not just in times of troubles or anxiety but also in moments of joy and thanksgiving. In the past however, I only pray because I need help and I need something from God; it was such a terrible practice being a Christian. I was being selfish for so many years in my life and God only knows about HOW MUCH I am repenting and making up for such. I now pray not only to ask favors from Him but most IMPORTANTLY, to thank Him for giving me the realization and the chance to recover so many aspects in my life as a Christian. As a Christian, when you pray do you ask all the time? Speak your thoughts. Thanks as always!

As a Christian I do more than my share of asking for help, but, I also find the time to say thank you to Him as well. It's important to note that I don't always thank Him in formal prayer. So many times it's a spur of the moment 'Thank you' that just pops out of me. There are many times when I don't pray to Him in a formal manner anyway. So often I just talk with Him as if He was in the room with me and I were talking with a friend - because that's what He is - my friend - as well as many other things in my life :) Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Hi kelly! That's a very nice way of talking to God--very personal and intimate. I believe He likes it more than the structured prayers. Thanks for sharing yoyr thoughts.

You're welcome sweetie! I believe that most Christians get so caught up in the formal prayer that it comes off sounding very pretentious. My prayers are very simple and maybe a little naive sounding as a result. Have a great day sweetie! Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija P.S. My friends call me Catwoman=^..^= or Cat. You can pronounce the symbols anyway you like! LOL! Everybody in my apt complex refer to me as Cat or Catwoman. I even have the symbols blown up 1,000,000 fold and put on the outside my door and in the name slot next to my door I have Catwoman=^..^= and a picture of a springing black cat! I love it!

Nah. In fact, I try not to ask for alot. I mean, you're given most of what you need usually anyway...it feels a bit ungrateful and presumptuous otherwise. I'll give thanks, much more often, than I'll ask for something. I'll sometimes send out a hope, for others, but that's mostly it. I'm not christian, but then you don't have to be christian to pray ^_^ I tend to do so alot, but my mind's just not been really with things, lately.

I am not big on praying so to speak. But when I do it is for health and well-being of a family member or friend.

The only thing I ask for when I pray is to help keep my family 'safe, happy, and healthy', I no longer ask for things for myself. I believe God helps those who help themselves. If you want something bad enough you have to try to achieve it yourself and then you will be helped. I thank Him everyday for all my blessings, lessons learned and for keeping my family safe, happy and healthy.

As a catholic, I always pray. Everytime I pray, I always asked for forgiveness for all the sins that i committed. In my prayers too, I always thank God for all the blessings that He has given to us and also for creating God. And i did not forget to ask God especially the safety of my family. Also, i prayed for the souls of my love ones who passed away and lastly, i also included some of the Saints that I have known for having a biggest part in my life.

everyday i always find time to pray during my prayer time. after hearing mass i go to adoration chapel to pray. first i start my prayer with adoration, praising our GOD, second i ask for forgiveness for the sins that i had committed to ask for HIS pardon for HE is full of gentleness and compassion. Third i thank the Lord for all the blessings that HE out poured upon me without measure. And supplication asking for HIS wisdom and strength a the day. To ask Him to ask my path to be level and victorious. Plus quite time, to listen to the voice of GOD.

Then I would asked for favors not really personal favors but also for the people that I love and for the world peace.

When I pray, unluckily, i always asks something to Him. Thanks for helping me realize that i am being selfish to myself. Despite it, i always pray everyday especially in times of thanksgiving and in times when i had done something wrong.

yes. when i pray i always ask something. but firs, i give thanks for all the blessings that He gave to me and my family, and the beautiful things that He made to my life and the trials also that make me stronger everyday, and most of all the life that He gave. And then i ask His forgiveness to all the bad thing I've done.

I try to start each of my "formal" prayers with thanks to God for so many things. I feel so selfish asking for things first. Sometimes, however, I will have those "spur of the moment" prayers when I ask Him for something. However, even when I AM asking Him for something, it's not always about/for me. In fact, rarely. I do ask to better myself and those sorts of things, but I also ask a lot for my friends and family and everyone around the world, so even though I'm asking for things, I don't think they're very selfish requests since they're for other people. I dunno. Very good point, however, as we should all be aware of our selfishness, yes, we all do it, and remember to thank God.

What I usually ask for is GUIDANCE...to do HIS WILL and not be so egotistical anymore. I have been working a 12 step program and it has made me see that my GOD is more than some distant authority...He is an ever-present, loving friend. I was amazed when I realized that I had turned away from Him by thinking that I needed to do everything all by myself. It is a lot easier to cope when I ask for help from my friends and the other angels in my life. I am most happy when I am praising Him and glorifying Him by living my life with this thought.."What Would Jesus Do?". It helps me to know that I am doing His Will and not just trudging ahead on my own. The JOY of recovery is in relating to Jesus, Others, and Yourself.

i think the most of us do pray for things. i know i pray for safety ever day for my children and family. but i guess i do give thanks alot. and i do often think of the sadness in christ on the cross and how cruel some were to him and i say i am sorry for that. but i know often times i do ask for things.
