How can I stop my incoming spam mails?

Friends! I have a email account with Gmail. it's for my personal use and I am use this mail for communicate my special friends. But daily i am getting minimum 50 spam mails like some sexy advertisements and marketings. i hate that. how can i stop the stupid mails.
i can't leave that email Id becuase many of friends and google groups are with the above account.
please help me friends!

Simply delete all of them if they are located at your spam-box. I have same experience as you, but as far as I know, Gmail always transfer spam mails to the spam-box.

Switch to gmail. If you're not using it as your primary email. You can forward all your other mails to gmail (there is that kind of feature even in Yahoo). It's easier to filter spam mails in gmail because they don't only rely on a certain list of email addresses to block, but once you've blocked a certain "kind of mail" they would most likely be filtered as well.

If u recieving messages from same ID u can block that ID ....you have option to block such messages...In every mail at the bottom there will be a link to prevent that ID to send mails....Hope this will help you
