Should a carbon tax be part of plans to combat global warming?

should governments adopt a carbon tax system as part of their comprehensive plans to combat global warming? Is a tax a good way to incentivize reductions in greenhouse gas emissions? What are the economic implications of a carbon tax? Will it harm businesses and industries? Will it harm consumers? Are emissions-trading schemes a more efficient and economically-friendly way to reduce emissions? cons or pros?

It is a bad idea. For one thing Global warming is a fraud http://pmcms.smartgreenusa.com/news/al-gore-news/fraud-of-global-warming/ http://pmcms.smartgreenusa.com/news/policy-news/your-carbon-ration-card/ http://pmcms.smartgreenusa.com/search-results?q=carbon+tax&search=1&x=0&y=0 The carbon tax will fall on the consumers. It will not just stop people from driving their cars for pleasure, it will stop people who need cars for business, who need cars because they are physically unable to walk to the bus stop, who cannot wait until the handicapped bus comes at the time they want, and those who have to get out when there is a blizzard. Because once a carbon tax comes in, then you might as well lock people up in their houses and everything they buy will be more expensive, because the trucks and trains have to bring in the food. If one can walk to the market place and buy some fruit and vegetables and it is nice all year round, but for those of us in North America and Europe, especially the northern parts, it will bring great hardships. And emission-trading schemes are just as bad. They reward the countries that do not have to worry about very cold winters, short growing seasons, and extremely hot summers.

It's nice to see someone else on here who hasn't bought into the Global Warming lie. It's a shame to think that so many people are willing to believe the consensus "lie" rather than do a little research and use a little common sense to see that the "global warming crisis" does not exist. The effort and the time required to search the facts and reveal the lies about global warming is but a spit in the ocean when compared to the efforts the alarmists claim are necessary to prevent a crisis that isn't real. I checked out the website you highlighted and saved it and I'm going to tell people about it whenever the subject of global warming comes up. Have you heard of the book, THE POLITICALLY INCORRECT GUIDE TO GLOBAL WARMING AND ENVIRONMENTALISM? I read it recently and it's packed with facts about the global warming myth. It's a book everyone should read.

no,i don't drive and i don't want yet another tax laid on me.if they fine companies they will just pass the buck onto consumers like they already do. i try not to use anything that throws up carbon as much as possible. until all governments get on the same page as far as reducing, nothing will work.

I think it's a good idea to implement carbon tax ^_^ IN this way, alot of ple will be forced to take public transport instead of driving their own transport, as well as prevent alot more accidents ^_^ hehe =D PLus if carbon tax is implemented, we will be saving the earth too.. So for ple whom dun wanna take public transport and insist in their own transport, they might opt to cycle to work instead, which is a healthy lifestyle too.. lol =D And with the tax being imposed, i dun see there's any disadvantages to it ^_^ lol

but you know, when you take public transport instead of driving their own vehicles, they must pay more than usual because the public transport company have to pay the carbon tax.

If the government really wanna cut down on carbon, and implement the carbon tax, by right, they should lower the tax for public transport, and that fares for the rides may increase by a little to cover the taxes whereby the company is paying.. ANd so, if the tax for public transport is higher than private vehicles, who will wanna give up their own vehicle?? ANd i think alot more ple will choose to own vehicle instead because of cheaper tax ^_^ haha

I have heard about this carbon tax thing and I don't quite understand it. How does putting another tax on us help cut down the emissions? Just because of this new tax, do they think less people will drive their cars? I don't think it will stop too many people from driving. We are already paying taxes on our gas so what is the difference if we pay more taxes. People will still buy gas and drive their cars so I don't understand how that will change people's thinking on driving. As for companies, well that would hurt some of the smaller ones that use gas for their business. Like some trucking companies, small business owner operator, it will cost them and some of them, I'm sure, will be going belly up because of this tax. How would that be good for our economy?

so you don't think it's a good idea for our consumers.i am totally agree with you. maybe it helps reduce emissions in all industries,of course, large companies.but the small companies,it really hurts them, too many taxex..

here in italy gasoline cost around 2.2$ every liter...please don't do another carbon tax!!!!i think it's very important to reduce our carbon footprint but doing incentives on hybrid cars or GPL systems or hidrogen... For the electricity we must improve wind and solar power absolutely in the next 5 years...have you see tokyo in these days?a cloud of smog surround this city...it's terrible, china haven't withdraw kyoto rules and so have a lot of "regular" emissions in atmosphere, their products costs a lot less there also because they don't have to spend a lot of money for filters or air cleaning systems and things like these, costs that in USA and in Europe are paid from the final buyer when he buy something...

i don't want another carbon tax either.because my father always complain about the high gasoline payment.we can't change the world ,but we can change ourselves. so we change ourselves first....

I believe that would be a good means of combating Global Warming . However;it should be mandatory for people with 3 or more cars ; or who use Cars below a certain Average . Otherwise; such Taxes cripple Middle Class , Honest tax Paying Citizens . The very Rich and those who have various means to evade taxes would still survive such a Tax .
