Is the world and living really complicated as we make it out to be?

Especially with us Americans. Has our popular "culture" gotten so much in the way? Is it that the real culture, below the surface of what's shoved in our faces, is the right way? Are all these worries about credit, loans lines of credit and all that stemming from our economic way of materialism? Also, is it something you hope will one day not be a concern?Because, in my opinion, America was meant to live free. That is, in the fullest sense of the word. That is the America that our founders wanted for us all. Yes, a country where we meant to believe in something, just so we wouldn't fall for anything. And i believe too many have fallen for anything such as people putting blind support in politicians because of flashy words.
Sometimes if we'd just pay attention. It seems this nation is succumbing and we got started long ago. The type of events and social ills that have brought down many nations in the past.
Surely it's a part of the pattern of rise and fall and we've fallen so far from our "great days" long before i was born. I just can only hope this nation finds the place where it is meant to be after the fact. After all that which is causing our social, economic and political-cultural ills. McCain isn't the answer. Obama isn't the answer. The American citizen is.
What is this "it" that is are the forefront of bringing us down though?

You put that so well that I am uncertain of how to respond. We have turned into such a gotta have it all right now way of life, that it was bound to fall at some point and the basics are gone. We all hardly know our neighbors but we know all the details of the latest hollywood scandal. We know all to much about Wall Street and not what is going on over on "main" street. I was thinking for so many years that I really would love to go to a life of simplicity. One that only Laura Engals knew on Little House On the Prairie.
