Does your dog like water?

Our dog loves to go swimming. He will spend ages out in a pond or lake swimming to his hearts content. We throw sticks for him and he swims for them and he loves to splash the water and bite it, he is so funny.
But any other water and he runs a mile. If I have the watering can out for the plants he will not come near me and if I have wet hands and shake them near him he runs away. We can't bath him because of this and if we tried to hose him he would go nuts. Lucky for us his swimming gives him a sort of bath and solves our problem but we cannot understand how a dog who loves swimming is so paranoid about water in any other form.
Does your dog like water? Does he/she like to swim?

Well, we don't really have a pool or pond for our dog to swim in. I don't know if he likes it when we turn the hose on him. He bites the water stream and chases it, and makes evil noises, so I think he sees it as an enemy. When we give him a bath, he just sits there and looks kind of depressed. He loves to drink water, though.

Bath time is always an interesting experience with dogs. I think the biting of water is fun, sounds like what mine does when he splashes in the lake. I know the depressed look as well. They are trying to make us feel guilty for torturing them in the bath. Dogs are such lovely fun beings.

My Petey never liked water, although he did somewhat like baths. He'd let me bathe him though I had to keep a hand on him and talk quiet to him...he never fought me on it. I do remember that he hated going outside to go potty when it rained and I'd have to hold an umbrella over him while he went.

About swimming, I can't say. We don't have any lake nearby. I have four pet dogs, and none of them like to have a bath. Two of them like to roll in a puddle though.

Our dog doesn't like the water but he won't fight us when we give him a bath.
He shakes in the tub hehe.
If my hand are wet he will lick them.
I can honestly say he is not afraid of the water like your dog.

Nice to know he does not fight. I have had little dogs in the past and they always struggled in the bath. I used to get soaked because I was hanging on to them to stop them running and then they turn that sad look on you. Why are you doing this? Then they get their revenge with the shaking. Lots of fun in summer but not fun in winter.

We've had dogs before that like to swim in ponds and lakes.
We currently have a puppy, and thought it would be nice to see if he would like to swim.
We live by the sea now, so when the Summer was over (less tourists, because dogs aren't allowed on the beach) we took him down to the water's edge, but he wouldn't go near it.
He just ran away, and barked and barked.
My husband thought it would be a good idea to throw him in, but instead just put his lead on him, and dragged him in.
The dog was so unsure, wouldn't go in very far, but wanted so badly to be with the kids, he kept going up to be with them, and they were in the water. I think he managed to get his paws wet - but nothing else.
We haven't done it since, but want him to enjoy the water - it's such good exercise.
He's part terrier, and was just content to dig in the sand - lol.
All I can say is - too much mess, water and sand -- yuk!

Well it could be the waves. Ours likes still water, we tried him at the beach but he really did not like the waves. He was ok in the shallows though. Swimming is wonderful exercise for dogs. We can't walk our much because we have not got the energy so my partner takes him down to the pond where he can swim and it gives him the exercise that we cannot.
Trouble is he will swim even when the water is low and smelly and comes home smelling. He thinks it such fun.
