Do you take your husband grocery shopping?

The last time I took my husband grocery shopping was almost 20 years ago. Our son was just a baby and I thought it would be easier if both of us went. I had my list and roughly figured on spending about $75. When we got to the checkout stand and started unloading the cart onto the belt was I shocked, he had added all this stuff I hadn't noticed. The bill ended up being almost $200. If it was new or looked appetizing he grabbed it. I told him for now on I'd handle the shopping, and haven't brought him with me since then. How about you? Does bringing your husband mean more junk and stuff in the cart then you planned? Do you shop together?

hi loreli1622,i usually dont shop with my husband.very rarely i shop with him.i.e. when we have to buy for our kid then only we shop.when i shop i compare the rates & look for the offers.according to my husband if we enter in a certain store he wants me to buy from there everything ignoring about the rates & offers.he has something in his mind & he wont care whether its too pricy or not he will buy it.where as me i do compare the rates from some stores & when i'm convinced i buy.he feels i waste time in shoppin.he doesnt have patience so its better for me to go alone & enjoy my shopping.

I compare prices and bargains all the time, my husband actually likes that, especially when I show him how much we saved with specials coupons etc

My husband and IO go grocery shopping a lot. Sometimes, if I'm too tired, he'll do it for me, thank God. But I don't like him to go buy himself. He never gets what I have on my list, or he'll buy a brand I don't like, or sometimes stuff I don't need. But, overall he's pretty good. And he's only started buying the wrong things lately.

There are only a couple of things that I am brand specific about, Miracle Whip, because I am allergic to eggs, Purex Laundry detergent, most of the name brands bother at least one of us, Dawn dish liquid, only one that seems to work well.

It depends on where we go. If I am doing the regular shopping he doesn't go but if he is cooking the meal we will go together or he will go. We like going to the farmers market together to get vegetables and to whole foods, he loves that store. Most of my shopping is done at Safeway and if I go alone I will definitely spend less and that is a good things these days as the grocery prices are so high. He also goes with me when we go to Costco and pretty good about not adding extra things to the cart because it can really add up at Costco if you do.

Yes, we have BJ's not Costco, but when buying bulk, the prices are more cost effective, but a bigger outlay, I go about once a month for the things we buy in bulk.

We do shop togeather maybe 1/3 of the time. He doesn't care to go usually but he loves his snacks and you know they know their way around the snack aisle or anything bad for you in general. I usually like his opinions on things sometimes but typically he just goes along for snacks and buy micro meals for lunch for him self. Though I have a lil strategy if I bring him he'll usually help haul in the groceries and that's always a plus!

He'll help me if he's waiting on me but it's really a hit or a miss and sometimes he'll tell me I'm supposed to "ask" WTH? It's called common courtesy.

I get lucky there, mine is usually watching out for me and comes out to help unload and carry everything in.

MY hubby and I always go shopping all the time although he is not a shopper. But when we arrive in walmart, he will go to motor parts and I will in groceries. We will meet up if I am done. He pick up his stuff he likes and I will do the same. And it ended up paying almost 200$ too but it doesn't matter to him or me because we're buying foods and some stuff that we want and needs at home.

Yeah, we used to shop together, but he is always hungry and so we would always come out with loads of cakes, biscuits, crisps and sweets. Now I only bring him if I have to. At least the kids help then, I send them off to find things for me, but they only bring back what I want, not half the biscuit aisle too. Lol.

Yes it is good training for kids, especially if they can understand the pricing tags to see if it's really cost effective to buy a bigger size or different brand

We do the grocery shopping together and it is the exact opposite. I want to buy more healthy stuff, but he insists that I do not need this, and when I buy almonds and walnuts he complains, when I buy yogurt he complains. He says I am the only one eating spinach, so we do not need it. I wanted to get some cilentro, but he said the dried one was good enough, so I guess I will have to go by myself or grow some. But when it comes to meat and toilet paper, he decides we always need that. He is getting better because we are now on a pension, and once a month, we will get a pizza or lasagna.

I put in an herb garden this year, it's cheaper and fresher and my husband actually realized spices and herbs can really make a difference (especially with my cooking!)

My husband does go with me most of the time when i go. I REALLY hate grocery shopping and here in the last few months my daughter will call and i will tell her what i need and she will go by her walmart and get my groceries and bring them to me so i don't have to go at all.

That's great, a lot of times I will call my mom before I go and see if she wants to go with me or if she needs anything, my parents are in their late 60's and neither one like to drive much any more.

I try to avoid the situation as much as possible. If I took him grocery shopping with me very often we would be bankrupt and fat! LOL He picks up stuff that I end up throwing out because after one try he decides he doesn't like it. He does occasionally go with me and I always make him check it out and pay (I know it all comes from the same place but this is a reality check for him) this usually will deter him for the next sevral trips!

I'll have to try that if I ever let him go again, I do show him the receipt when I get home, just so he can see how prices have gone up, especially in the last year or so.

He usually will go shopping with me, to help out with the kids. If not then alot of the time he will volunteer to go by himself, to speed up the process.

That's great, my husband only volunteered right after our kids were each born, only because I couldn't go myself.
