Back when I was in Singapore studying my high school year or O'level. I have many penpals. Mostly are international penpals such as Korean, Japanese, Thai, etc. It is true but funny that every year my school would organized of group of students, asking us to write letters to penpals all over the world. The list of names was given by the interenation association. Of course back then, internet was just about to begin, so the chances of using emails were limited. As for me, at that time when I was writing letters to penpals was because I wanted to have more friends beside they are not from local, so there are so many things we can learn from each other like traditional cultures, believes, pratices, etc. Usually, we kept contact for a few months and some for a few years. However, all these contact are now lost since we moved a lot, and some letters were sent to the old address..etc. Beside international penpals and I are in different countries, so it is hard to even meet. The most what we can do is to call. Of course international calling is very expensive. What I wanna say is that not all penpals last, but it is best to keep all the precious memories and letters to think back of those good old days. This is life.. got to live and learn..

I used to have penpals back when i was in highschool. It lasted for 4yrs though, but some aren't, as i dont write back. I just don't have much time to write a letter. But at this age, people uses email. And I dont like to send email though, unless it requires me to. I like the new age system where you can just chat to the person instant even if that person is in another part of the world. I think penpal is good. It creates a good bond and a lasting friendship. Although mine lasted for 4yrs. I wish I could still keep in touch with her. It's been about 17yrs ago. My penpal that time has to move to another state, and i havent got any written letter from her when she finally move out and started college... Well, happy mylotting jianhong! cheers!

A penpal is someone you consider a friend that you can share things with that you normally don't share with other people. All because you're sharing the information via the computer or via postal mail (which sucks in this digital age). Anyway any friend you have can still be a friend for however long. It's just a matter of you both having the right contact information on each other. For instance, I have a friend that I grew up with back in middle school and high school. We haven't spoken to each other a few years. Only because he and I both changed our contact information without sharing it with the other person before we did it. As a result when we did try to reach out to one another, we discovered our information had changed. Prior to us losing complete touch with each other, we hadn't touched base with each other in months, but when we did, we did all of the catch talks that you do when you haven't spoken to a good friend in a long time. Any friendship or penpalship can last as long as you desire it too, just make sure you communicate with your friends and family before making any sudden changes in address and phone number changes or email changes. Thanks for asking the question!
