Do you hate it when people eat with their fingers, instead of a fork?

EWWWWW! Eating with fingers, unless it is food designed to be picked up, like fried chicken, is very rude and I'm afraid I would be more than likely to point that out to the person. There's nothing wrong with having manners

And, the worst is when someone
takes liberties with stuff on the other
person's plate.
Helping yourself to other people's food
is not good table manners!

Well, not really. I guess it depend son the food. Most of the time, I think it's reasonable to eat with your fingers if it's french fries or something like that. I don't think I've ever seen anyone eat with their fingers instead of their hands. I used to eat noodles with my fingers just to make my mom mad! What I really hate is when people make sticky noises when they eat, like my brother is doing now!

Definitely, those noises drive me crazy. I sometimes even get annoyed with the normal sounds of eating. Actually, in general I don't like watching people eat, it's not the most interesting act we as humans do.

No, in some cultures eating with your fingers is how they eat their food. In my culture we eat with our fingers too (as well as using a fork or spoon) and it's not considered rude either.

I would say it would depend on what it is they are eating but if it isnt finger foods(such as hamburger and french fries) then they need to use a fork or spoon not their hands.Have a great night.

To be honest I see nothing wrong with using your fingers to eat food. I will be honest and say I do use a fork to eat my food but when my food is cold I then use my fingers to eat my food. I see nothing wrong with it because the way I see it is that when we were learning how to eat we used our fingers. So why cant we use our fingers as adults or older children. I will say that I have eaten cake, stuffing, eggs, hash, and much more with my fingers. I think it is fun to eat my food this way some times. Well thank you for this good discussion and Happy MyLotting.

Well in my country eating with hands is very common..
So have no problem with people eating with hands.
But that doesn't mean that you can become all that messy!!!
Just eat with hand .. there is no need of licking it as well!!
Try not to make it project yourself as an animal!!

While in public, if there is any possible way to eat with utensils, I think it should be done. I know in upper scale society they even teach to eat friend chicken with a fork and knife. I don't mind if people around me pick up things with their fingers if they are indeed 'finger foods', but what gets me is when someone takes say a piece of bread, scoops up remains of the meal on his plate with the bread, and then eats it.

There is a restaurant here in our country that encourages diners to eat the food served by using their hands. I have gone there a couple of times and its really a good place. There are also exemptions like eating deserts like ice cream, surely you wouldn't want to eat that with just your hands, least you'd ask for a spoon.
Spaghetti for example is really difficult to eat with a spoon so a fork really is
Some places don't mind meals being eaten by using ones own hands. Some cultures also prefer to use their hands on eating meals than using utensils.
Then, there are those finger food that gets served on parties or in some occasions.
necessary.
I wouldn't really know it it is rude, it depends on the intention of the person if he is indeed rude or its just habit out of culture wherein whenever they enjoy the meal being served, they use their hands.
I recall even a place that after a meal, if one burps or belched out loud, its a sign that they really enjoyed the meal and the host would be pleased about it.

I think it depends on the food that there are eating as say for instance if its a sandwich/wrap or meat on the bone then they are finger food. I would also say it depends where you are eating as if its a nice restaurant then I would say its rude but if its a cafe then you could get away with using your fingers!!

there are countires who eat usign their hands/fingers and that includes the philippines. yuck or euw for you but not for us. yes that's the common comment but only because you don't live like we do and we have different culture with yours. it's not like everyday that we eat with our bare hands, this of course calls to a specific food or scenario. we have a lot of restaurants where we could eat using our hands & the delicacies are often grilled -- pork, fish or seafoods. at times we are sued to eating with our hands when we are in a picnic, usually places like the beach, etc. it's not rude eating with our fingers, it's rude when you eat like a pig.

I always try to eat with silverware instead of my fingers, except with the foods it's unavoidable, like toast or snacky things like chips. I just don't personaly like eating with my fingers because I hate when my hands get messy or greasy. I don't always think it's rude when other people do though. But I mean, there's a time and a place, for example...mashed potatoes...I saw someone eat that with their hands once, that I considered rude, especailly at a dinner setting.

It really depends on what they are eating. Things like sandwiches, chicken finger/nuggets, fries, pizza--those I consider foods that are finger foods. In public I do sometimes attempt to cut pizza and eat with a fork, but sometimes that gets really annoying and depends on how much time I have to eat. There are some things that I can't imagine eating without a fork or spoon though, and I would think is was gross if someone tried. I think that if someone is eating finger food, that is fine--I just hope they washed their hands. Some things are just awkward to try to eat with a utensil.

i think this would depend on where you are coz there are people who came with traditions and belief in their life. but it would be a different story when you are in a restaurant that using spoon and fork is what it is yet there are also restaurants that using utensils is only the second option. even when you are at home and there's a formal gathering then using your hands is not appropriate and lacks etiquette, unless there's what you called finger foods being serve. nonetheless, it depends on where you are, who you are with and of the occasion.

Hi Beautyqueen, it is certainly rude to use fingers when fork & spoon are required in certain places. But some food are best eaten with fingers depends where and on what circumstances.
I can't imagine eating BBQ chicken wings without using my fingers and licking my fingers after that.Sure is handy when outdoor without the utensils.
Cheers and happy posting!
