What would you do if you couldn't find your can opener?

What would you do if you were in the middle of cooking supper and found that your can opener had disappeared? That happened to me, today. This evening I decided to add corn to my rice dish, but couldn't find a can opener. I searched everywhere. But, no can opener. Lucky me, I had some left over corn in the refrigerator, so I used that instead. What would you do if your can opener was lost?

Hi there beautyqueen26 That's a darn good question I guess I wouldn't have it or I would use a sharp knife and stab a few holes in the lid and hopefully bend enough metal to make a larger hole and no doubt cut myself open in the process!!

Don't get me started on kitchen snafoos! I'm the world's clumsiest cook. For awhile, I had to stop using my counter top toaster oven cause it burned me every time I made toast!

If I had lost my can opener I usually just borrow my inlaws, which live just down the road from me. I have an electric can opener so it sits on the counter, kind of hard to lose that one. lol.

I don't think that would ever happen at my house. We have an electric can open that sits out on the counter. We also have one of those one touch electric can openers, that goes in one of our drawers. In addition to those, we have two manual can openers. Yes, we have a lot of kitchen gadgets that we don't use. :) The thing about having all those can openers is that we really don't even eat canned food that often.

I have a little knife stand which has all sorts attached to it, there are 5 knifes, scissors, potato peeler, egg timer, can opener, salt and pepper all attached so I know where my can opener is at all times unless it hasn't been put back then it will be in front of the knife stand.

I'd probably use a screwdriver and open it as best I could that way. Shelly, on the other hand, uses a large butcher knife

I would be so afraid of stabbing myself accidentally.

You could use a knife but you have to be really careful. I saw our maid doing it when I was younger. What you do is point the sharp tip of your knife on the edge, on top of your can lid and then bang your can over the counter until you create a hole big enough that you can slide your knife in. And then using the sharp edge of your knife, which is now parallel or as close as you can get it to be parallel to the floor, work the lid open slowly away from you with a sawing motion. It sounds dangerous but it isn't when your careful, I've done this a couple of times. Ive even tried using a sharp knife as corkscrew! Desperate times calls for desperate measures..

Lost can openers eh? Well... this has happened several times. We keep misplacing the can openers and what we usually do is we would use a knife to open it. (No choice. Lol.) Take note of the word "we". I definitely can't open a can using a knife. I'd probably cut off something else... like my finger.

Use a sharp knife - it's hard to explain but that's what we use when we can't find our can opener.

Hello beauty queen. If I could not find my opener, I would go to my neighbour for help as I think that they must have one available for me to use for a little while.

I bought a lot of can opener in the past. They always go useless in just few times of opening cans. Maybe because I always buy low quality openers. The case now, is we do not use can openers anymore. We only use knives to open cans. I don't know if you know how to do it but even my wife is so used in using a knife to open canned goods.

I would be very helpless in this kind of scene. I will have to do without opening the can til i can get a new one. I have not lost an opener but I broke one. Good thing my husband was around,he used a knife to open the can of whatever was that. I could not look though, too scared he would cut himself, but he didnt.maybe we can keep a spare of those manual openers just for emergency use.

If no can openers around, I do it with a big sharp knife. I have taught myself how to go about it. During camping we use a hunting knife or a regular knife because we don't bother carry can openers. I know of other people in camping who knew how to open cans with a spoon but you really have to press it on the lid very hard and it's very difficult.

My grandmother taught me how to use a knife to open cans. So that is what I would do. Using a large sized knife punch a hole as close to the side of the can as I could then work the knife up and down working it across the can making an x. Actually if the electricity went off I'd be up a crick because my hands are just too week for the old turning can openers.

I would be hard pressed to lose mine since it's electronic, and plugged into the wall. LOL I had a manual one, but I couldn't grip it, so I bought the electric one.

Well I think it would depend on exactly what I needed it for. If it was for food that I had to have or had to cook then I would look good for it and if I couldn't find it then I would go buy a new one. If It was for food that I didn't really need and just wanted to eat I would probably choose something else to eat, and look for the can opener. If I really couldn't find it then I would buy a new one.

Hi, beautyqueen26. Hopefully, I did not open the can yet. Because if I did, then that is one good can that I just lost. If it was lost, I would open a pack of frozen vegetables and cook this.

Hi, beautyqueen. I would probably try to use a knife to get the can opened. If that does not work, then I will omit the vegetables for this meal. I can't stand to see my can opener missing. I have to have this when I am preparing my food.

Hi there! If I can't find my can opener in the middle of making supper, I will just use my knife in opening the can. I have done that several times already. We go up the mountains sometimes and we don't carry can openers with us. We just use knives and so I'm used to doing it. Ciao!
