I am a righty, whenever I try to write with my left hand it is totally illegible.
Everyone in my immediate family are right handed.
Are you lefty or righty and is there anyone in your immediate family who is left handed or ambidextrous? If your child uses their left hand do you try to encourage them to use their right hand, if so why?

My mom told me that I am lefty but since it's hard to teach a child how to write my mom taught me how to use my right hand instead.
Only a few years ago when I discovered that I was originally a lefty.I was actually wondering why my left hand is stronger than my right hand and there are some things that are easier to do if I am using my left hand.LIke opening a bottle..No matter how tight it is ...if I use my left hand I can open it easily.I can also right using my left hand...but it's not that good. But if I'll practice I can probably be an ambidextrous.lol.

Yeah, since you have good control in your left hand you are probably ambidextrous. Probably with more practice you could probably write with your left hand as well.

I am right handed. I can sort of write with my left hand, but not well enough that I would do it on a regular basis. One of my brothers is the only left handed person in the family that I know of. I would encourage my child to write with whichever hand they were more comfortable with.

I'm a lefty. As far as I know I am the only one in my immediate family. I can write with my right hand, but I have to go slow and take my time. It doesn't look all that great, though it is legible.
I know at one point my sister was ambidextrous, but that was when we were younger and she practiced a lot using her left hand. Looking back on it, maybe she did this to encourage me to use my right hand. Who knows? All I know is she soon gave up on it and used only her right hand.
I'm guessing if right handed people want left handed people to use their right hand it is because they (the right handed people) are embarrassed or even ashamed by it.
