Have you tried eating bangus?

Bangus, commonly known as milkfish, is the Philippines' national fish (I think). It used to be very cheap, but now prices have increased. Nevertheless, it's more affordable than tuna, salmon, halibut, and other kinds of fish. Not only that, it has tender meat and is quite tasty. The problem with bangus is that it's a very bony fish. So I always make sure to buy the boneless ones in the supermarket. There are so many ways to cook bangus- you can fry it, stew it, put it in a soup, etc. I'm a big fan of this local fish, in fact, I hope there will be bangus sashimi in the future!

Bangus sashimi? good luck with the deboning. LOL. I love bangus, its a challenge to eat it. The best part is the stomach, the meat there is so soft, plus that's where all the fat is. oooooh... My favorite part though is the head. I don't know why, but people like me who like the head suck the bigger bones. I also love the boneless bangus, either smoked or salted. Its great during breakfast with fried rice with extra garlic and vinegar... yummmy..

Oh yea bangus belly is soo good but sometimes it doesn't taste so great after eating the entire belly fat...I've always left the head alone. I don't like how it looks. Plus is there any meat there?!

Sounds delicious, but I have never heard of that kind of fish. I am from Florida though. Maybe sometime you can dry freeze it and send some to me in the mail! Just Kidding. My favorite fish meat is shark, it tastes just like steak. You can grill it, fry it, bake it ect. The only problem is, we are only allowed one shark per boat down here, but if you can get a big enough shark, then there's alot of meat, like 4 meals at least. My other favorite is pompano. That's a delicacy to me! Good luck with your Bangus sashimi, hope you get some in the near future.

Yikes! We Chinese eat a lot of shark's fin in soup, but I didn't know shark meat could be eaten as well. :( That's really sad actually I don't want to eat any shark parts anymore after seeing how fishermen tortured the poor killers on tv...

My favorite!!!! The best part for me is the belly of Milkfish. Yum yum!!! Everytime we have bangus in our meal, my elder brother and I always fight in the belly part. I am glad our youngest loves the intestine and eyes. So who ever comes first in the table gets the best part..haha. Bangus or milkfish is really expensive but it doesn't matter. I missed eating bangus!! Especially the fried bangus also the grilled bangus with onions and tomatoes in it!! grrr

Bangus really is quite expensive! I don't know why that is so when it seems to be plentiful anyway. My brothers and I also fight for the belly so when no one's home for dinner I have it all to myself. Yummy!

It's too bad that you haven't tried it. Hopefully the frozen boneless ones will be available in your country someday.

My family eats it when its boneless. We dont buy the fresh one and struggle to eat it with pleasure. My husbands dad is from pangasinan, the bangus capital of the Philippines. We buy the deboned ones.We know where to buy it. We buy the daing na bangus(marinated and deboned milkfish),the tinapa(smoked),the belly cut and the lumpiang shanghai bangus(dumplings). If we cant go to pangasinan, somebody buys for us and send it through the bus.

Hi! I only eat the boneless bangus and the dinaing na bangus. Whenever my mom serves the ones with the bones, I don't eat it because I am not good at removing the bones (and I don't have the patience, I guess). I like my raw bangus cooked as part of sinigang, or deep fried. I am in the States now, and it's not easy to get bangus in Philadelphia. That's why whenever I take my vacation in the Philippines, I could eat my favorites again, of course including sinigang na bangus (and dinaing na bangus for breakfast)! Happy myLotting!

Hmm... we rarely see this in the local markets. I will see if there is, I will get some to try. It would be nice to know and taste what you are talking about. Hmm... the bony fish has a boneless version as well?

I love fish, all kinds of fish and seafood! I wish I was in the Philippines eating fish right now. A fish that is so versatile, what a wonderful fish! I like fish best with sauces and in soups. But I like fried for variety. Thanks and take care.

bangus is very delicious!!! i like eating them but i just hate getting the bones.. i feel like i will lose my appetite because it really takes time. that's why i prefer to fry it so that some bones can be eaten coz i can't feel it anymore.. i also love the sinigang type.. really good.. especially when it's very fresh...

Hello mimico! I also love bangus. I like the taste and tederness. In our hometown, we can't buy a boneless bangus because my father directly bought it to the fishermen who just came from the sea. So you see? It's still very fresh. However, I really hate the bones, lol. I didn't know that it's too expensive now. Maybe the price in our hometown would still be reasonable than here in the city.

Yum yum.. I love inihaw na bangus! the best! ^___^ but weird thing is i don't like the belly part. Haha! maybe because of the texture or I don't know, that's why people will like eating with me because I would give up that part. Haha!

I love grilled bangus stuffed with onions and tomatoes. You can dip it in a mixture of vinegar, garlic and red hot chili pepper. I love eating the bangus belly jelly. Yum!

Never heard of it but it sounds delicious. I think i might have to look for this the next time i go grocery shopping. I love fish it's delicious but my wife doesn't like anything from the sea so unfortunately i never get fresh cooked fish unless i buy it when we go out. It really bugged her when we went on a cruise one time and they have all that delicious fresh food from everywhere. I had fish everyday of the week and had snacked on all sorts like shrimp and king crab legs and all that. It was hilarious cause she even said she had a hard time kissing me after that, LOL. But i will definately check this out cause it sounds good. Thanks.
