Life would be easier for you here in Japan if you can speak Nihongo(japanese language). Only few Japanese can speak/understand english. I've been working here for almost 5 years, most people here are very friendly, hardworking, and very polite. Convenience stores are everywhere. You can find vending machine on every streets. If u have any question about Japan, don't hesitate, i will try to feed you some informations that I know/learned abot Japan.

My cousin went to Japan while on a military assignment because she was in the reserves. well, she completed her time in the reserves there and decided to stay in japan because she liked it there. One thing she said is that the cost of living is pretty high as in an apartment, but the good thing is that the food is very cheap and you can eat, but finding a place to stay would cost a lot and it might not be as big. If you live in a big city it would cost more, things are compact and they even have a 'cube' type living space where its really small.
some pros i can think of is the stable economy, advancements in technology, and the cultural is more accepting then the US at least. I think the change of the cultural differences shouldn't be much of a problem. i wouldn't mind living there, but at this point, just visiting is good enough for me. i went to japan almost 10 years ago and it was nice. i do suggesting visiting on several occasions and leaning the culture and the language and writing before moving there just so you can get a hold of things there.

A friend of mine moved there for a year. She remember these peculiar things about Japan.. It hard for her to get the utilities set-up, hard to figure out how to do this. She was never able to figure out internet access at home. So just doing everyday things can be hard, due to language and cultural differences. - She lived on the North Coast of HOnshu and the weather was crazy.Cold!Wet!Rain, sleet, snow all in one day! houses don't have central heating. The good thing is that the Japanese bath tub helps to warm you up. THe people are super friendly and fun. It's hard to find coffee and donuts, and you dont get free refills on coffee. THe vending machine toys in JAPAN are awesome!!!
