The need for speed! What is the fastest you have ever driven in your life?

Or even been a passenger and gone fast? The fastest I have ever driven myself was around 227 kilometres an hour (Around 140 miles per hour) on a highway back home and I have to admit that it was both scary and exhilarating at the same time! It was in a Porsche. It wasn't a very intelligent thing to do either really and I would have been in serious trouble if I had of been caught! But at the time I didn't really think that far ahead! lol. What about you? Have you ever driven a car or ridden a bike extremely fast or been a passenger in a vehicle that has given the speedometer a good hiding? How fast did you end up travelling and would you like to do it again?

Are... you... crazzzyyyyy??? I don't think I've gone that fast. When I first started driving, I used to go around 80-90 mph. My driving used to worry my brother who was even worse than me. But I've never gotten a ticket and haven't been in any car accidents (knock, knock on wood!). But as I grew older, I've learned to drive on a lower speed especially when I'm driving and I have my family or close friends as my precious luggage. Besides, about 6 years ago, I was on the freeway, not knowing that a nail was in one of my tires. Thank God I was going 70... the tire blew, my car spun around and when it stopped, I was looking at oncoming traffic. I saw several cars swerve and miss me by thismuch before CHP got there. Right then, I knew I didn't want to die. Lol! Since then, I don't think I've gone over 70. If people want me to drive, I tell them that's how fast I'm going to go.

At the time I think I WAS a bit crazy, yes! But I had an open highway in fornt of me and a very powerful car at my disposal so I thought "What the hey!" and just floored it! The scary part was that the car could have gone much faster than that but I ran out of highway! Your driving incident certainly sounds pretty scary so I am not surprised that you are now more conservative at all. I have only ever received two or three speeding tickets in my life and this 140 mph incident I assure you was a one-off event! Thanks for responding SaintAnne and keep that foot away from the accelerator!

James, You know by your experience in India, that there is no way we could touch those speeds here, no matter how fast you car is. Not with the condition of our roads and the cows in the path.. The fastest that i have driven is 140 kmph. Never attempted to go beyond that. Although recently was a co passenger in a merc in which we managed to reach 180 kmph. I'm quite happy to be at between 60 -70 within the city and upto about 100 on the highways.

Now i wonder what would have happened had you done that in Egypt ? BTW . Was that 270 kmph an offshoot of a couple of those 16 year old , pimple driven moments of yours ?

Oh most definitely alok! I did end up in a car going about 180 kilometres an hour on a trip to Pune once though! The highway between there and Mumbai is pretty wide and there weren't many cars so off we went..... I was just a passenger this time around though. I only drove once or twice in India actually, once in Bangalore in an electric car and once just to move a car in Mumbai City! I don't think I would have coped to well with the traffic there if I had of driven all the time to be honest. Thanks for responding and stay at those limits you said mate, it's too scary to do otherwise!

Hi James:) This post of yours brings back fond teenager memories for me, I thank you. :) The fastest I've ever driven is 140 mph, in a old Cadillac on a scary, dark road in North Carolina somewhere. It was a total rush and I would do it again if given the chance. I wouldn't even hesitate! When were we stationed in Germany my dad loved to take us out on the Autobahn and just floor it. Simply because he could! According to him, he got up to 170mph and I take him at his word. It makes for a good story atleast. I loved it, and I don't doubt it's the reason for my love of fast cars and fast driving. It's all my dads fault! :) I want to jump in the car now and just floor it! Varrrroooommmmmm....

Hi acuityplague! There is no question that it gives one heck of a rush. I am not sure if I would have had the guts to do it in an old Cadillac though! I would definitely love to do it again one day but not on an open road. It would be great to go to one of those perfromance driving centres and zoom around a racetrack! Thanks for responding and try to keep the speed desire low key for now so we can see you on mylot again!

I'm not sure how fast I was going, but it was fast enough to get pulled over by a police officer! I had been driving my mother-in-law's car (long story) and had my oldest son with me (he was around 3 years old at the time). He ended having a meltdown and I panicked. I wanted to get him home quick and needed to get over into one of the other lanes. But the lane I needed to get into was packed so I sped up as I saw a clearing further ahead. However, I didn't see the cop...until he was right behind me! To make matters worse my mother-in-law's car wasn't registered or insured, so I thought I'd be in deep sh*t for sure. OMG, was I scared! But the cop was very understanding. He ran my license and as I have a clean record he let me off with a warning. Phew! I think, although I'm not sure, that the cop told me I'd been going 85 mph. I'm pretty sure the speed limit at the time was 55mph, so I would have been going 30 miles over the speed limit. Not as fast as you, but still faster than I usually drive. I haven't done it since. My husband has admitted to me before that he's gone over 100 mph on his motorcycle, though he won't give me an exact number. Probably because he knows I'd kick his butt for going so fast. LOL I'll have to ask him again though, just for discussion's sake. So, what about you James? Have you sped as fast as you did since? Or do you not have the need for speed anymore? LOL

It always seems to be the ladies that manage to get off with just a warning! I've been busted for speeding only twice from memroy, but thankfully I wasn't too far over the limit each time and only received a small fine. Your Hub's is a smart man for keeping quiet about his true speed! lol. There's something about males and motorcycles that triggers an idiot gene on occasion 'cos I have friends that are absolute maniacs on bikes and I'm amazed they're still with us! And no, I haven't driven that fast since and I haven't even owned a car for the last 4 years actually. I've been living and working overseas all this time and my Australian licence expired! Even when I do get back home and renew it, I won't be driving that fast again unless it's on a racetrack. Looking back on it, it wasn't exactly a smart thing to do.

It took me a few years to reflect maturely on it all, but yeah, I learned a lesson from it in the end! lol. I did say "ladies" by the way, so was of course referring to all the other chicks. LMAO

Hey! Who are you callin' a lady? LOL It's a good thing I was let off with a warning. Could you imagine how much trouble I would have been in otherwise? It sounds like you've learned your lesson...I hope! You did learn it, right? LOL

I, myself have not driven over a hundred, maybe 88, once when I was passing a truck. But, in high school, I went for a ride with this guy. He had just bought a brand new car, and wanted to take it out for a spin. Well, he was a crazy person to begin with and I knew it, but I got in the car with him anyway. We went out on this narrow, winding, country road. He got it up to about 120. Talk about scared shtless! I don't think I ever go in a car that I knew HE was going to be driving, again.

Wanna know how much of an idiot I was back then? I had ridden on the back of this guy's motorcycle once, before I rode in the car with him. That is how I knew he was crazy when it came to driving. I guess I was young, this guy was cute, and popular, and I was kind of flattered that HE would ask ME to go anywhere with him, so...... *L* I was such a doofus.

Well, I still am a doofus, just not the same kind that I was back then. Just thought I would get that in before someone else did.

Wow~`I think you're talking about the PC games~need for speed at the first eye of your discussion.lol~~I've never been experincing the luxury car like Porsche untill now~so,no way to drive so fast like you,say exceed 200km~I had tried 170km last year in a newly built highway, which was few cars and no police~~lol~I felt all the car shocking heavy and I felt a little bit scare as well. The whole time maintained less than 1 min~lol.I don't think I will try again unless I belong a really really good car~`

lol. No, this is not the PC games tony. In those I go MUCH faster than this! It is definitely quite scary but I was in a high performance car so it handled very well. I would agree with you that it may be best to not try again unless you are in a really good car and on a racetrack or something. It was not overly smart on my part to be hnest but I did do it and am lucky nothing bad happened as a result. Thanks for responding.

Hi James. Back when I was in my teens, which was...oh, a hundred years so so ago, everyone owned or had access to a muscle car. The speedometer numbers went as high as 140 mph, so, um, well.....never mind...my fastest was too fast, but it was fun! Karen

Hi Karen. They had cars when you were a teenager??? LMAO. 140 MPH is fast alright! This is around the fasstest speed I've driven myself too as I got up to 227 km/h which is about 141 mph. I was on an open freeway and would've pushed it even higher if I hadn't of run out of road! I was in a high performance car though, so it handled exceptionally well. I'd love to get on a racetrack one day. It was fun at the time, but I'll never drive on standard streets like that again, that's for sure!

LOL, yup, we had cars back then...right after the muscle horse and buggies went out of style. It sucks to run out of highway, yes? LOL. I'm with you, though, reformed now, and a safe driver ;)
