Well if antivirus programs don't work then there is only one option left, and that is to format the hard drive. But before doing this you have to try other ways. Anti Virus programs are more effective when they are executed from a Virus free Hard drive.
What you can do is to have your system scanned using a virus free hard drive.
If you can remove the hard drive from your computer and install it at a different computer (it must be installed as a slave drive) with an updated anti virus program. After this, run the anti virus and scan the infected hard drive. If this does not work then you have no choice but to format the infected drive.

Formatting the the hard drive is not the good one i think. Because we lose all our data. Even if we have the backup it an additional work for us to reformat and again copyig the datas. Many people format their hard drive if their system is affected by a silly viruses. For example some viruses will dont show hidden files. And some others even the folder option. This can be corrected by tweaking the registry. Before formatting we should think. May be a good way can arise to clear the virus

Yes I agree but formatting the hard drive is a last resort. As I have said One of the best and effective ways is to have drive infected scanned and cleaned by a virus free computer. It has worked for me many times that is why I keep an extra hard drive around.

I got effected by a virus called funny.USA.scandal virus. It was the virus that prevents any program to run. No program will work when the virus is in our harddisk. At that moment, I had found the behaviour of that virus how it acts. After all I came to know how to remove it. And I did the same which saves my pc to reformat and helps me to save time. So I request all of you, When your computer was effected by any virus, first know the virus and its behavior. Then you can be able to remove it safely from your computer. It saves a lot of time by avoiding the reformat of PC and reinstallation of all programs and Operating systems.

Formatting the hard drive may be one of the options, but for me I usually find other ways to remove the virus. I only resort to this option if everything fails. For example, I use the installation CD of my Windows XP and try to restore the registry of Windows. Most viruses attach themselves to the registry hives. Once I have recovered the clean registry, I scan the hard drive with antivirus; or manually delete the files associated with the virus. Websites of antiviruses have links on how to remove some viruses especially on the registry. This is a little bit difficult to do since there are some manual processes to perform.

every anti virus has one speciality. but at the same time, single anti virus cannot remove all types of viruses. i had used many anti viruses. if you go for free softwares, those will protect and prevent your system from attack. but if it is affected, then you cannot remove high viruses like trojans. but i reccomend lavasoft pro edition. it gives me much good result. it costs 40 dollars.
