I just responded to a discussion about this teacher who was suspended for 10 days after he wrote a rasicist remark on the board for this students it went something like: "can help a N***r ger elected."
There were some who were outraged and one person who even said:
"I am getting increasingly annoyed about Obama running as a "black man" when he is half white. Why did he have to make this election about race? He is causing more problems by dividing us"
It made me wonder then if he were not "half white" would he be this far? What do you think?

NOPE!!!! Most white people are racist even if they don't admit it. When white people make it a point to share with a minority that they have "black" friends - racist and they just feel guilty or don't know what else to say.
Unfortunatley eveything in this country is based on race at the end of the day - whether people want to admit it or not.

I applaud you. No one could have said it better.
And I can see why your child dropped these two as friends.
This is just another example of using the color of your skin
to get what you want.
I once heard a waitress tell a white man why she didn't serve him
after one of the 2 (a black man) touched her inappropriately.
"There is a law now that says I have to serve him but there isn't one that says I have to serve the jerk that comes in here with him."
The sad thing was the black man had said to the white man "They can't refuse service to me or they know they can get in trouble if they do".

i am quitely confused with American..
they said that people born equal, but when there is a black man wants to be president, they dont like it
basically, i believe that if obama is not half white, then he cant be this far.
and vice versa, i think if obama is white, i believe he would easily beat mcCain

I really like your response because I think you are exactly right.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this discussion and lets keep up the discourse.
Racist or not the only way to accomplish real healing is to talk. Thanks My Lotters.

I believe if Obama where white he would beat McCain by a landslide, but I wonder if he would have beat Hillary if he were white. And if Hillary had won, I think she would have a tough race against McCain because she is a woman and there are some people that are not ready to see a woman as president. It's pretty much a catch 22 now with the diversity that exist among real presidential contenders now. These are pretty exciting times right now, because either way it goes, the glass ceiling is getting broken this election.

I do think Obama' half blackness had something to get him this far. The Democrats were hoping that the black community would not see that Obama was for abortion and most of the Planned Parenthood offices being in black districts, and for same gender marriage, but just see his color or his allegiance with them, so called. Well some of them were taken in, but some had enough intelligence to know what he is, a charismatic megalomaniac who would not leave the house if the walls were plastered with mirrors.
He is trying to divide America and keep racism alive. If he classed himself as half white, well he would probably have a few whites behind him, but neither white nor black would be fooled.

"Democrats were hoping that the black community would not see that Obama was for abortion and most of the planned parenthood offices being in black districts, and for same gender marriage". . . HUH? I don't think democrats are trying to hide that they support marriage for all adults, regardless of gender. Nor are they trying to hide that they support a woman's right to choose to have a baby, or not. One more time, Obama is not FOR abortion. Nor are other liberals, or anyone else who believes a woman should have the right to choose what to put her own body through. We are not hoping people get pregnant and have abortions. We are hoping unwanted pregnancies don't keep happening in the first place. Obama is certainly not trying to divide America, and keep racism alive. Racism is kept alive by all this ridiculous talk by uneducated, alarmists.

First of all, I've read this before here but I have no idea where it came from that Obama is "running as a black man", but I have no idea where it came from because Obama has never said that. HE hasn't made it about race but to some people he did just for having the audacity to run for a job that had never been held by "his kind" before, right?
I know there will be plenty of people here who will disagree with me but I think obama would be just as far as he is now no matter what his race or skin color happens to be.

I beg to differ.
I don't think he would be as far if he were not of mixed race.
Both White and Black America will take a "half white" man over a dark skinned black man or woman any day. Most of my best friends are of mixed race and I see the diffence in how we are treated whereever we go. My mixed "light skinned" girlfriends can get more smiles and better service than I can--I believe it is just inate/imprinted on us. It does not really bother me because I know it is done across the board by both races, but I am just letting you know my experiences and wondering if anyone else has seen it.

That is very sad and I'm sorry to hear it. I'm not denying that prejudice still exists in America, I've certainly seen it in my small Pa. town and it both angers me and breaks my heart. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic regarding Obama but one thing I will say is that most of the people I've met personally who would be hesitant to vote for a black person wouldn't be even considering voting for a Democrat to begin with so that kind of cancels the race issue out.

I don't think "white" has anything to do with your point. However if Obama were 100% white he wouldn't have made it this far. Who knows who will get elected. The American people voted Bush into office twice.

I agree. If George Bush could run this country's economy into the ground within two years of being elected, taking away all the money Clinton had left behind, and still get elected it's anyone's race. I would never have thought Bush would get 4 more years and I was for him the first time.

I don't think it matters that he is half white. If he had not been black at all I think there would be more focus on the issues and less on his ethnic origins and whether or not he is muslim. However, had he not been black, Hillary might have been the Democratic nominee instead of him...who knows. I really feel that Obama has gotten as far as he has in spite of those who use his race to instill fear into others due to his credentials and hard work.

Obama chooses to ignore his white heritage and run solely on his black side. If he was 100% white he would never have gotten this far. He has gotten the black Americans so excited about have a black man as president they, especially the younger voters, have forgotten that a president should not be elected because of the color of his skin. My black grandson-in-law and his friends do not have a clue what to look for in a president yet they are all (and their families) voting for Obama.

I honestly just don't know. I do know that the media has done its best to remind America that he is "the first black to be nominated by a major party" thus focusing the nation on issues of race that should not be issues in the first place. On the other hand they did the same thing with Hillary in regards to her gender. During the primaries the media was always reminding voters that this was a historic election because we were either going to have a "First Woman Presidential Candidate" or a "First Black Presidential Candidate". I really do not think this was the right thing to do. This media rage even went so far as to, at least in my opinion, cost other candidates the media attention they should have had.
At this point I am forced to wonder, like you, whether he would have been able to get this far if he were completely white instead of half white. On the other hand, if he were a 100% white man, could he have pulled it off and beaten Hillary to win the nomination? If he had not, then we would still be in the same boat - only the issue would be gender instead of race. I really wish we could grow up as a nation, and stop this racist thinking. All it manages to do is confuse the voters and divide an already divided nation even more.
But to better answer your question, I really doubt that he would have gotten this far if he were not black - I think if that were the case Hillary would have won the nomination hands down.

No I don't think he would be this far, and I think he is using the race card to win this election. Some people are so hype on making a black man president it does not matter what he knows or if he has any experience, they are willing to sell out American just to get him elected. If you notice he always talks about his black side, I dona't hear him rattling on about his white half. He fills the people with a bunch of b/s that he knows he can't do, but he knows they are looking at his color and not listening to a word he says.
I also hear that the man that walked from either Fannie or Mac whichever that left with 90 million, Obama got $126,000 of that money. For what, to keep his vote to what they was doing. I don't trust this man, I think he is a crook and will walk with half the usa, and by the time the people wake up to what is going on it will be done.

Actually I completely agree with you ddugas. I am an african american woman and I feel exactly the same way. I have seen evidence that so many people are voting for him because he is black and you are right, he does a lot of hyping up the people with no real defined solutions. This is not to say that I am any more impressed with McCain.
I am actaully voting NONE OF THE ABOVE....lol.

I think Obama is an intelligent, competent man, who has the best interests of our country at heart. I think he is charismatic, and able to get things done because of his desire and his natural abilities. He would be this far in life no matter what race he was born into. He is not the one who "decided" to run as a black man. He is running as a man. How in the world would he show he was not running as a black man? It is stupid to even talk about. If he walked around pretending to not be half black people would find fault with that. The color of his skin makes people think about his being black. He is as much white as he is black, and neither has anything to do with the type of president he'll make.

I think the reason people make a big deal about it is because in this age and in this time we have yet to have a "black" president and I think that people esp black people need to see one who has accomplished the highest office. It is a big deal that he is half black because an entire oppressed race looks like him--it gives them hope and pride. I understand why it is such a big deal and I do appreciate he is an intelligent and charismatic person--I am not trying to take anything away from him. I just personally don't believe him, but that does not make him less than he is.

To tell you the truth, I don't really know what to say to this. But I truly don't know if it's causing more problems or dividing us further. I'm with the concensus, whoever can help this country out the most should get elected, so I guess the question is can either of the canidates truly do it.

This is the question I have been asking since day one. I also have to wonder if he would be considered a "black man" if his wife was a white blond and his children were more white looking than black.

I don't think being half white has anything to do with it. It's not like the people who support him now wouldn't support him if he was fully black. A racist doesn't support a half-black person any more than he or she supports a black person.

Yes a racist would support a person who is half white more than they would a "fully" black person. I am not saying it is logical, but it is true--at least in my experiece.
