On friday morning i woke up with my face so swollen and sore, overnight the root of a tooth that im scheduled to have pulled abscessed. I've been on the waiting list for the oral surgeon for over a year. The reason its just a root is it was being pulled and the dentist i was seeing broke it and couldn't get it out (not for lack of trying) They froze me as much as they could until it wasnt an option to freeze and i still could feel her pulling very painfully...they gave up after 3 hours of trying. Before you say it...i went to the dentist Friday morning as soon as i got to town. They TRIED to drain it and it wouldn't drain so they gave me some very expensive antibiotics. I went home and I've been so tired ever since. BUT friday night at about midnight the abscess did drain finally where the dentist had punctured it. I must say its the grossest taste ever and the dentist was right that when it did drain there was alot of pressure relieved. The swelling went down alot almost immediately and my eye was no longer swelled shut. Its still very swollen but feels alot better and They ahve me booked into another oral surgeon sooner than the other one. Both have me on the emergency list now so..heres hoping they take the root out soon. The antibiotics seem to be helping. I'm also very tired. I think this is because of the infection and my body is trying to fight it. Have you ever had an abscess tooth or oral surgery?

I have never had an abscess tooth or oral surgery. My sister is a dentist so is my father in law. I'm glad that the abscess finally drained for you, I can imagine how much pain you must be. Sometimes warm salt water helps with the soreness, everytime my husband has an abscess I tell him to use the salted water, and it always help him. Wow, one year is a mighty long time to wait for an appointment, I hope you get it taken care of soon.

I agree it is a long time. The oral surgeons wait lists here are long...lots of other appointment wait lists are long too.

My junior or senior year in high school I let two teeth abscess, because I knew my family did not have the money. I would drain them myself. It turns out that they were baby teeth. I have an abnormality where in certain places I never had adult teeth. That is where my bridges are. Besides warm salt water as some have recommended, I would highly recommend doing just about a tablespoon full of hydrogen peroxide as a quick rinse before bed. Here that is less than a dollar for a pint and it lasts forever.

I am sorry to hear that you woke up Friday morning with an abscess tooth and I am sure it is very painful, and it sounds like they need to do something about the tooth to get rid of the pain, and I am glad that the antibiotics are helping with the pain and I am sure it is very tiring trying to fight with the pain,I hope you get better soon,I have personally never had an abscess tooth,or any surgery like that and the only surgery I have ever had was when I had my tonsils out and that was scary because I could not eat solid food for a couple weeks.

I have had both. I currently rinse several nights a week with peroxide, because it seems to help a couple of sensitive spots. I have had an apicoectomy, which is what it sounds like you will have. I have had root canals, and bridge work. I cannot afford any more expensive oral surgery for awhile, so I am doing the rinse, like I said. It was my solution, when a tooth started hurting and I was on vacation, but my dentist says it is an excellent idea, and to keep it up. It is pretty effective at cleaning under my bridge work as well. I think it helps keep them whiter as well if I do it regularly.

apicoectomy? I'll have to look that up! I'll have to try the peroxide rinse to see if that helps with prevention of having to go through this again. It sucks that dental work is so expensive.

That sounds really really painful and annoying. My husband broke a couple of teeth, and needs to get to a dentist, but since we have no transportation, that might be a problem. I have a good dentist here in Canada that I might be able to get him to, just as soon as we come up with the money.

This is scary - infections and abscesses can cause a lot of other problems like blood poisoning and swelling/cross infections of other organs. I am surprised that they did not sedate you (put you out entirely) to remove the remainder of the root. Antibiotics will help but only short term.

The antibiotics are helping for now...and I have an appointment for the end of the week now to have it removed..along with sedation and all that not so fun stuff.

I have had both and they are not fun. I had a root canal that went wrong and to this day my tooth still abscesses. The cold kills me. Unfortunately my deltal plan does not cover specialty dental procedures, so i suffer through it. I am goung to have to get it done sooner or later though. Hope you are feeling better!

That sounds like it must have hurt. Oooh and that taste, I bet that's really bad. I have a tooth that has been rotting away. About a month ago it started to hurt cause the nerve was exposed. I went to a dentist who said I need oral surgery cause it needs to be cut out, it can't just be pulled. My appointment is tomorrow. I am freaking cause I've never had to have a tooth cut out. I want to be put down for this. I hate the freaking dentist so bad!!

I'm being sedated for my surgery. I'm so glad because dentists scare me like crazy. I hope your appointment went well.

This is probably a question of habit, as long as adhere to brush their teeth every ady on the line does, to maintain good personal hygiene practices will be able to stay away from some of the virus ,but some still can not be avoided, which I am not very clear ,such a situation,As soon as possible to see the best dentists.I have not seen such a situation.
