How to develop for a programmer?

Hi, i am a programmer. In my work, i use java in my work. Now, i have worked just two years and i am confused for my future. As a programmer, which direction of the development is suited to a programmer?

You could use your Java talent to write programs or games, and then sell those to users or businesses. Or be hired by a business that needs Java programs/games and create them upon request for said business.

That sound good, but there are so many small games in the internet and small games can not earn money. And big games or programs can not be accomplished by myself.
