going to church or going to the mall

I've noticed that people these days are excited to take a bath and get dressed when their going to the mall, the opposite happens when going to church.
The other day, my nephew was asked by my mom to take a bath because we were going to attend church. My mom says, "when he was going to the mall he was so happy to take a bath, but when going to church he gives me that sad stare..."
When are you more excited to get ready... when going to church or going to the mall?

In the present age a lot has changed,thinking,values,attitudes ,behavioural patterns,etc,some for the good and some for the bad.Unfortunately due to extreme commercialism and the trend towards materialism, the present generation has moved more towards the former and away from the spiritual aspect. It is no wonder that the young people give more importance to enjoyment and consider spirituality as something to be done when they grow older.It does not surprise me that your nephew behaves in the manner that he does. It is neccessary for his parents to inculcate in him good values,even the normal habits of hygiene since you have mentioned bathing, which should be done everyday and not just when going to church or the mall.

I like your answer but I will throw a little monkey wrench:
I have never seen a movie (old movie) with a kid happy going to church, all seemed kind of sad or depressed to be in a setting that well has them well dressed and quiet with nothing to do but stare at the minister, priest, pastor or daydreaming of being outside.
I do agree we are not getting more spiritual tho. I feel that if parents or grandparents behave happier about church going, then the kids will follow, I have seen kids happy to learn about the bible or been in church because the parents were even more than happy to share with their kids
It is hard for me to pick a religion or even to follow the one that my parents taught me when all I heard and see is negative news from them.
As for the bathing, well he might have needed to be extra clean before going to church or the mall, kids seldom stay clean and it has nothing to do with how often we tell them to bathe, but with how they play.

That's good that you have a sequence of where to go first. My brother in law went to a barbecue one Sunday morning, and he said he was going to church in the afternoon. That same day he was caught for DUI. For me, something different could have happened if he went to church that morning.

of course I get so excited going to the mall or somewhere. but I don't get excited going to church instead, I feel so happy and blessed going to church. going to church isn't a responsibility, but it's one of many ways showing your love for God.

Right now I am not a mall goer or a church goer.
I will give the same sad stare no matter what.
But seriously, church and the mall is what we make out of them, if the service at church is long this could be a problem for a kid, if the adults are also happier going to the mall, this also is an indication that good things will happen at the mall and if the adults dread going to church, hate getting up for church, this is also an indication that not so many good things happen at church.

I can say I am excited in preparing myself going to church or going to the mall. I understand that some people tend to get excited in going to the mall or to the church, for it depends on what people tend to treasure the most. Anyway, it brings me such an excitement playing the tambourine or keyboard in the church. It is one of my ways blessing God for everything that He has done and still doing in my life. When going to the mall, I do am excited to go with my husband and kids.^^
