You can start a blog for free and monetize it! But I have little experience monetizing my blog, still learning!

Well, I used to be writing articles on renovation. BUt I lost steam on the blog after I got busy with my work schedule.
I have been meaning to go back to it. But my PC crashed, losing a lot of my research material.
I am still painfully trying to recover what ever I can.
To get my disk recovered at the labs is costly. And I don't know whether is is worth my while to do it or not.
Sigh...

Your blog is very specific! Quite a niche. But unfortunately, I'm looking for blogs about writing and how to improve one's writing skills. Terribly sorry that I have caused the miscommunication. Maybe I wasnt't clear enough. I know how painful it is when your PC crashes. I have lost lots of data when my external hard disk fail to function. Thumb drives drive me crazy too! If my laptop crashes, all my articles will disappear. I can't bear to think what might happen if that's the case. Hope you can recover as much as possible.

I was actually looking for writing blogs, blogs about writing, in order to improve mine. The last one you suggested seems to be closest to what I requested since it reviews stuff. I personally write reviews too and trying to find ways to improve those as well. Thanks for your references!

Hi Sydney Hazelton,
I think you have to follow what Stephen King has to say in his book, "On Writing"; He insists on two things which he thinks are vital parameters in deciding any writer's growth and success: 1) Read a lot. 2) Write a lot.
Reading improves your vocabulary and acquaints you with different ways and situations the words you learned can be applied. Constant writing gives you good practice and thereby gradually helps you express yourself with relative ease. It doesn't matter what you read (as long as you understand it) or what you write - doing it is what matters.
As for the website, have you tried the blog, www.dailywritingtips.com ? I think they have some useful tips and advice that can be of some help to writers. Then there's copyblogger at http://www.copyblogger.com/ which is one among Technorati's "Top 100 blogs". They have some very useful articles for writers. I also used to frequent www.writemindset.com when it used to be regularly updated - they have chosen to remain dormant for quite a while now. I shall drop by this discussion again, when I encounter or remember any of such sites that offer worthy help to writers.
Good luck!

Thank you for a wonderful post! I really love the way you write and express yourself. You are clear and precise. It's true that reading and writing helps a writer to grow. That's why I had wanted to search for some blogs which will give tips on how to write and hopefully the blogger writes well too.
Your suggestions are exactly the kind of blogs I was looking for. I will definitely check out those blogs you mentioned, especially the one on the Top 100 Technorati list. Thank you so much for the wonderful references!

Yes, I do have a writing blog, but I have it more as a way to communicate with family and friends all over the world, rather than as a writing exercise. The most difficult aspect is to keep at it regularly and to be creative, as one has to include pictures and graphical material. I think it is also visited but people outside the family, but that is alright by me! The more, the merrier! My address by the way is http://writingtoyouall.blogspot.com. I have been using Blogger since I started and it has grown with my blog!

Hi sylvia! It seems that it is a rather personal blog, but has some interesting bits about writing. I have to try to add more pics in my blog too. I'm too lazy to do that I guess. I use blogger platform too. It's one of the easiest to start with. Thanks for your response!

Hi,
You've already been given some links to blogs that provide writing tips etc so I won't add anymore, partly because in many cases you're either going to receive multiple instances of the same advice, or sometimes conflicting advice (those pesky grammar rules - seems everyone has a different idea) though one good site I'd like to recommend if you're interested is http://www.writing.com - it's a great place to not only get some honest feedback on your work, but it also provides a wide variety of different information on all forms of writing etc.
Having said all that, and depending on what type of writing it is you want to do: fiction, non-fiction, article writing, reviews etc etc the best way to really learn is to read a variety of things in your chosen topic to get an idea of how others have done it and to just jump in and start writing. The more you read and write the more you'll pick up on what's right and what's wrong and what works in your chosen field etc.
If you're more concerned about things like grammar and spelling etc before you make your work public there are also places you can go to get it edited or no doubt their's others around who would offer their help

Thanks for the link. I will check it out soon. I know what you mean about the grammar rules. There are people who offer help when it comes to editing, but there are others who will offer criticisms on your writing. I had that experience once. Anyway, I'm going to continue writing and hopefully earn more in the months ahead.

I only have personal blogs. I don't think I have ever seen a writing blog before. I am glad that I came to this discussion though because I bookmarked the sites that Paidtowrite linked here. I fully intend on going through them and improving on my own writing.

Hi Sydney!
I have a blog but it's not on writing & it's not monetized...
Actually, I've been researching all this too & would like to start a 'real' blog & monetize it too.. but still learning...
I have found a lot of info about writing on the Absolute Write forum... - It is meainly for authors, such as freelance article writers & book writers (fiction & non-fiction), but there is a section for bloggers too..
& freelance writers also have blogs one can learn from...

I just started writing a few months back. And I guess I feel a little stagnant in my writing style after awhile, so I need new ideas to freshen up. That's why I'm searching for recommended writing blogs to emulate their writing style if they suit me. Thanks for your response!

I currently have a blog that I use to display my photography http://hollyannephoto.blogspot.com and I try to get photography gigs through that, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I love to write so right now I am planning on starting another blog which I hope will be able to earn a profit off of (that's why I'm putting a lot of planning time into instead of just starting it) writing about visual arts, entertainment, and advice. Good luck in your search. I like to write for Associated Content, there are a lot of really well written articles on there, you might be able to find something there that you are interested in that will help you with your writing skills.

Thanks for your response! I have a blog as well. In fact, I have opened and closed a couple of blogs myself. Sometimes the ideas just do not flow and after a few postings, I gave up. But there is one which I continue to write, it's about my attempts at making money online. So it is rather personal, which sites I join, how much I earn, payment proofs and all that.
But for this discussion, I was lookign specifically into writing blogs, those blogs which helps others to improve their writing. Thanks anyway!

I do write my own blog. I just basically write whatever I am thinking based on the theme of the blog I am writing. I write a spiritual blog based on my thoughts about the different things in the Bible.
