Should kids be allowed to wear Costumes to school on Halloween?

I remember wearing costumes to school on Halloween. Now I have my own kids and they are not allowed to wear costumes to school. They will actually be sent home from school on Halloween if they wear a costume to school. They started out allowing "nice" costumes. No witches, vampires, or anything of the sort. Now they are just banned from wearing them all together. Do you think there are valid reasons for this?

i think its stupid that some schools do that. i now here where my daughter goes they do not allow it and dont even have a party. they are all for work and no play. i dont know what kid doesnt like to go and dress up for halloween and go to school and chill for awhile. when i was in school they allowed costumes but nothing scary at all. they all need to get over themselves and let the kids be kids.

Kids just want to have fun. We already place so many limits on what kids can and can't do. My kids love dressing up for Halloween. They look forward to Halloween all year. What is the harm in it?

The world was a different and much safer place when I was younger. Halloween meant indulging in candy, attending costume parties, scaring the crap out of your friends in the name of fun, and watching "The Great Pumpkin" because it was the only Halloween special around at the time. And the generations before me understood this fun spirit and didn't mind if you went to school dressed as a vampire or a witch or whatever you wanted because it was all in good fun. But now...Society (as a whole because it's not everybody) has taken Halloween to a dark place. Parents must worry if candy has been tampered with, children want to be "real" witches and not just pretend ones. It has turned into a violent holiday when it used to be all in good fun. Special Interest Groups have been allowed to run wild calling out all kinds of harmless things like costumes and saying, "they will offend someone". Being PC is now more important to everyone than letting your kids have fun. I have no problem with my child dressing up as Cinderella or a zombie. It's unfortunate that Society is slowly taking away all of the things we remembered as children. Our children will not know the joys of a fun Halloween soon. And then...one day...someone will probably send a note home with your child telling you NOT to let them wear anything with hears on it on Valentine's Day! lol
