I once started a discussion on why believers turn athesits. I was really moved by the responses. I understood one thing that some people do want to believe in God but illusionary energy (or maya) is so strong that people no matter how hard they try get defeated. If a believer after serving God faces a calamity, ofcourse its natural to deviate from one's path. This life itself is so difficult. Some people try to maintain their faith by thinking that God will help them in the time of crisis. When they do not get it they loose their trust. But I have seen many staunch devotees who maintain their trust in God even after facing disasters one after another. And I have seen God helping them after a certain duration of time. But these believers or devotees do not ask for any materialistic wishes. They just ask God to give them an opportunity to serve HIM. They surrender in Gods feet completely and let God drive their life. I am talking about these devotees or believers. So what do you think? What should be the approach?

Has it ever occured to some of you that some people lose their faith because they more scientific knowledge. I left my faith when I learned more on the subject of evolution. And how rediculous and unnatural the rules of my faith were. I decided to believe in things I could observe directly and indirectly with my 5 senses.

There are many of us believers who believe in scientific knowledge too. We are not illiterates, if that's what you are thinking. If there are some rules that you cannot accept in one faith, you can always relax your views on it. That doesn't have anything to just lose the whole concept of spirituality for materialism.

After evaluating scientifically and logically I believe that the theory of evolution is crap. The big bang theory is the biggest crap of all times. We all are highly educated people and have used our knowledge and understanding to understand God and spirituality. Instead people who do not understand the science of God are called fools. When there is a creation there has to be a creator. If I give you all the raw materials and tell you life will be created automatically from it just like big bang theory says, will you agree? Forget about life. Just create a building automatically from the raw materials. Forget a building, create a brick automatically. So how can plants, animals, humans be created automatically? There has to be a coordinator and a creator. Your 5 senses are not sufficient to understand this basic concept, then how will it understand God which requires extreme efforts. No hard feelings friend but donot be judgemental. People believing are educated people.

What you say is so true. If we surrender everything to God's will, there will be no reason to think "Why did God do this to me"? Some people believe that God is there just to help us during times of difficulty and that is all they can understand in terms of spirituality. It takes a lot of maturity to understand why and how God helps us during our difficult times. When you can take everything as a love offering from God, you begin to accept whatever you get. This does not mean passive acceptance, or doing nothing about difficult situations. We have to do what best we can and leave the rest to God. Suffering is the best teacher. The great devotees and saints' lives are to be read again and again with devotion. Their lives are our inspiration. Of course, it is not easy to become a saint, but if we work towards annihilating atleast one bad trait and cultivating one virtue in one life, then this life would not have been lived in vain.

Very well said friend. Knowledge is absolutely essential. If we broaden our horizon and read about the lives of saints, we will understand that they have been through a lot of difficulties before achieving their goal i.e love of God. We give up so easily. We judge God without trying to think deeper. We never put into consideration that the law of Karma plays the major role. We all think that we have been perfect all our life and hence we deserve the best. We all are God's children. If we hurt another child of God, we cannot expect to be forgiven every time. We have to undergo punishment. But we consider God to be our order supplier. If our wishes are not fulfilled we think God does not love us or he does not exist. But do we ever think, that we must have done some mistakes which makes us suffer. Law of karma spares no one. Still by the mercy of God we get all the facilities in life. Everybody faces problems in life. Even I face it. But what is the solution? Should we defame God and blame God for it or ask God to forgive us and give us the strength to carry on?

I would like to just say one thing to you rup. Do not argue with people who are not in the line of devotion. Their minds can not be changed. Only realised people can know that true devotion can arise only in an enlightened mind. Jnana and Bhakthi are one and the same. Did not Adi Shankara who was the epitome of Advaita glorify different Gods and Goddesses? The one who is enlightened never tries to lead another away from where his questions take him. This fight is exactly like it used to happen in my house. My father was a vedantin, while my mother although she understood Vedanta was more interested in Bhakti yoga. As far as I can see, men are more attracted to Vedanta, and women towards devotion. That is the general trend although there are exceptions. There is nothing wrong with both ways. Both lead to the same goal. The Goal is one, the ways are many. Fighting over the path only makes us fools. These people are not atheists, they are just trying to find their own path to God. If they can find it through Jnana Marga, well... good for them. What is there to argue about this? All the questions asked by Kangallo, and positiveminded including some more too were in my mind for a long time. Then one day, from somewhere, when somebody asked me the same question... pat came the answer from my own mouth!! We are never really created... the whole universe is a dream! So long as we think we exist, we exist!! As simple as that. But to understand this takes a lot of questioning, and most importantly Satsang!! These people are in their questioning stages, they will get the answer some day. Our telling them the answer will not stop them from asking the same questions again. When their own inspiration answers them, they will have no more questions to ask. I am not saying that I have no questions. I do have some but atleast I understand that I will have to evolve to understand the answers to those!

Dear Positiveminded, First of all, please forgive me if you think I have hurt you or Kangallo for any reason at all. My intention was never to hurt you both. I am in fact very glad that you are asking questions and are indeed seriously looking for the answers. I do not think that I am superior or you are inferior, or vice versa. Just so that you may understand me, I am saying this... I was questioning the same questions that you are asking plus a lot more that you have not put down in this discussion to some Mahatmas whom I had the good fortune of meeting every summer vacation in my school days. They gave me the same answer that I wrote to you and even then, I didn't believe them. The reason why I said "Our telling them the answer will not stop them from asking the same questions again. When their own inspiration answers them, they will have no more questions to ask." is because I didn't believe them when they told me the answer!! I understood it all of a sudden when intuition hit me, and I believe it is going to be the same way for everybody. I know exactly what you are going through because I've been there. I believe we are all the same in essence so why would you be inferior or superior to anybody? Although by 'them' I did refer to you and Kangallo because Rup was definitely getting hurt by your questions. I just wanted to emphasise the authenticity of those questions. But I do want to say one thing to you. There are different paths to God. The same path does not work for everybody. Asking questions is not bad, but I would suggest you get some really enlightened mahants to ask those questions because we ordinary humans generally don't possess the maturity to understand the way the mind works differently for another person. Those with maturity will be able to understand the serious questions that you are asking. When you say "Who created God?" and we reply that God is eternal, etc..and you cannot accept that because you say there can be nothing apart from the time and space constraint, then we cannot answer you. Because, we can accept it(though it is hard to imagine with this brain) that there is a possibility of a Being without time and space constraint. So, at this point we can only say that when a spark strikes in your mind how this is possible, you will be able to understand the theory further. For your comprehension, try imagining God as something like an atom(Please don't think I am referring to the atom as God.. this is just an example), which is everywhere, then I guess you might be able to understand. To answer your questions, "So I exist now because I think I do? And if I stop thinking I exist, I will stop existing too?" - You can never stop existing because you always exist, here I was talking about the "I" as a separate entity, with a body, as a separate individual. Sorry I wasn't clear in my explanation. And then "Who is dreaming? You? Me? or God?", the answer is You, Me and God. . You will understand this when your time to understand comes. Again, I am not trying to hurt you or make you feel inferior, this 'time' is different for different people, and I definitely don't know how that works. Please keep asking your questions, but I guess all the people you ask those questions too might not have the maturity and patience to answer you like you want them to. To be honest with you, sometimes it looks as though non-believers think believers to be fools and illiterates and that sometimes it shows in the way they ask questions. So, it is natural to get an angry response. I hope you will have the maturity to keep an open mind with their responses, take only what will help you and discard the rest.

Excellent!! When we learn the numbers 1, 2,3 and still do not know addition, we cannot expect that we will be able to solve complex equations. So one has to follow step by step. These people do not try to understand God, but try to question who created God. I am sure when we reach to a certain level God himself will reveal this to us. I liked you answer. Have a nice day!
