My mom always made our costumes also. We would be bums, grannies, hippies, whatever she could figure out from what was in the closet.
When my 19 yr old was little, I started a halloween bucket. Every year whatever we bought for halloween, we put in the bucket. My now 8 yr old goes to the bucket to figure out what she wants to be for halloween. If she doesn't like anything, I make her a costume. This year she wanted to be a pizza. We started making it, but then decided that a slice of pizza would be easier for her to walk in, so that is what she is being this year. After halloween if I find a good deal on costumes, I may pick up some for the halloween box.

My sons costume this year is semi homemade, but my daughters is not. My son wants to be Ben 10, so he is wearing his green pants and a white t-shirt that I put black tape down the front of to make it look like Ben's shirt. He is also wearing Ben's watch that I got him.

People egged you? How rude. At least you were more mature than they and enjoyed yourself anyway. There are lots of websites with ideas for how to make your own costume without spending a ton on materials. I think this year, that could be the best thing you could do. Save the money for something longer lasting. As you know, the memories of Halloween are what is important, not now much you spent on the costume.

I though about making my kids costumes, but this month has been so crazy I decided against it. Usualy I can find the time to try anything to save money but wow, not this month. I think that the costumes you find at the store are all the same and the home made ones are the ones that look different.

This year me and my husband will be making our sons costume because he wants to be Pacman ( yes the 80's video game creature..lol) and I don't think they make those type of costumes. This is the first year my son has really wanted to dress up in a costume he really loves, so we are going to make it for him out of cardboard boxes and poster paint, paper & duct tape. Each year I usually buy my son a pricey costume on ebay or at the Disney store and I'm thrilled to know that my son wants a unique affordable homemade costume this year . My son also wants a Pacman theme birthday party when his birthday rolls around in November.. I have a lot of craft projects to start very soon!..LOL

i still don't have kids but i plan to make costumes for them in the future. it would be more special if i design and make costumes for them. most of the good quality costumes here in the philippines cost more than 1,000 pesos and i think they're are too expensive.

My mom never made me a costumes she alway bought them for as long as i can think back. I only think thats because she wasn't good at it. But my mom did all the halloween stuff for me because she know I liked it and it was fun for me, she would start to save up for halloween months before it was even near just so she would have the money to get me the comstumes I wanted thats what I remember.
