Americans Do You Feel Safe?

With the federal bail out situation, the loss of jobs, the different food shortages or contaminations and such, how safe do you feel right now? I viewed this in a poll at another forum that I belong to and it got me to thinking. Several people had posted about properties being broken into and several items stolen from food to tv's and tools. Now I know it is getting closer to Christmas and for some reason stealing seems to occur more frequently during this time but I am really unsure of how things are going to work out the next few months. I went to the grocery store today and things were more expensive and we stocked up on quite a few things. I have always tried to be frugal but now we need to tighten our belts even more! What is everyone's opinion? Do you feel unsafe on any level? Financial, physical, or both. Around here it is both, we will be cutting back expenses and making sure our property is safe as well.

As a fellow American i can say that I DO NOT feel safe on any level at this point and time. The job market is HORRIBLE here. I have a college degree and yet I am working at a restaurant as a waitress. Armed Robberies seem to be happening left and right. Literaly, they are hitting one store going to the next block and hitting another one. I live in Georgia in Lowndes County where the motto is "Come on vacation leave on probation" and yet the uprising of gangs and just common criminals are at an all time high. We are already strapped just to pay the light bill and phone bill. The entire country is headed straight for a depression. We have spent billions on a needless war it seems. I also think things are going to go haywire after the elections. It is going to get worse not better. I think that some people just dont know what to do, they have no money, no job, and have kids. It is scary. The days of letting your kids out to play in the neighborhood are long over, so many kidnappings and pediphiles lurking around. I just dont know.

Wow, "Come on Vacation, Leave on Probation" I have never heard that before. I am fortunate that I live in the country so I do not have to face these daily trials that someone in the city does. I do feel for you. I feel that the country is headed to the depression as well. I fear for everyone's safety before it is all over with. Thank you for your comments and please try to be safe!

Being careful is always a good idea. My brother in law is fixing up a house he is purchasing. While he was out someone broke in and stole all the copper pipe. Times are difficult. People are desperate. I will say I feel safer when hubby is home.

Sorry about your brother in laws problems. I think that people are very desperate these days. I understand what you mean about feeling safer when your hubby is home. I feel safer when my fiance is at home as well. During the day is not bad but in the evenings it gets to me.

I don't think it's just the americans. I think the whole world is at risk. It's the greed of the ceo's of the world not lowering their bonus's. It's the banks wanting to not share the intrest rate cuts to the max. If the richest people in the world were to lower their incomes and put those savings back into the pockets of the little guys the whole of society would be a better place. Thanks for letting me rant. And if your in the U.S I have ways of makeing a bit o extra to help. Just let me know.

Yah I am in the US and I would like to know about the extra. I agree with you concerning the problems we are facing. It is getting outrageous. You are right the big guys are pocketing big money while us smaller guys are biting the big one! Thanks for the post.

I feel fairly safe out here in the country as a matter of fact my a.c. is out and i am sitting here with all my doors and windows open and it is one a.m. On the finanicial front it would be pretty hard to feel safe when politicians are grinding us into the ground with their stupidity!

Well at the moment I feel safe as far as where I live at (for the most part). I do not feel that the financial situation is safe at all! I am very hard pressed to make ends meet these days. I am hoping that it gets better soon for us.

i think americans should take some precautionary measures about this issue to safeguard themselves from the effects of these economic recessions or financial crushes and credit crunch as well as this china milk scare issue...there is nothing you can do at all but to be prepared what ever situation might come out from all these issues...of all the worse that will be affected are us..the common people who lives the day on the small portion on what we can afford for the day to survive...and having these problems this is another thing to brave again to live and survive...and what we can do is to prepare for the worse and pray that things will come right again ....and what you are doing is good cutting back expenses, saving food for sure, avoiding some credit cards uses, to be free anyway from all these headaches...

Yes, we have been stocking up on different things for quite a while. We have had several financial difficulties lately and that is not helping our current situation but I do know that we will not starve and should have the basic necessities for a bit. Thanks for your reply.
