I am not a diabetic, but loved my sister to this disease because she didn't take care of herself..Besides following your diet plan, but not so strict that you deprive yourself..I think that was my sisters downfall, she would try to stick to her diet and then fall so bad and binge eat on all kinds of sweets..My daughters friend is also a diabetic and her mom says that today, you can eat sweets, but very limited.
Then the other thing I seriously encourage you to do and that is exercise..That is so important..My sister was always non active and exercise is a great way to keep your blood flowing, (diabetics have poor circulation), and keeps you fit..Also keep a very close eye on your feet for any little problem at all..

Thanks Laura, for the BR and kind words..I know it can be hard, I also have a sweet tooth and truthfully if I ended up with diabetes, I don't know if I could stay on a diet that had very little sugar in it..I am weak in that area, and if it ever did happen, I would have to really start relying on G♥d and people to keep me from over doing it..

a1c is a test we do every 3 months it measures your high glucose spikes in 3 months time since blood cells live 3 months. it should be below 7.0 to help hold of complications
