My doctor put me on naproxen tablets, and they have done the job for me for the last couple of years. They also work very well for me, taken with two extra strength tylenol, if I have a really bad headache.

Hi there Anne18
I too have been a bit lucky that I have never suffered really badly but if I do get a few pains then I just take some pain killers and I'm on my way.

I'd like to curse the day that I first got my period. It was really awful. I had to put a hot compress over my abdomen and if I could only walk upside down I really would. When I was younger, I wasn't taking any medicine but since I have to go to work or go to school I had no choice but to take dosages of pain relievers.
My mom would always tell me not to take a shower whenever I have my period. One of those traditional ways to preserve the yucky blood. That's really gross! I couldn't stand the smell of the blood. Yeah it did came from me and it is part of me but if I have a choice not to experience it then I would say a huge YES. Really, lucky are those who are not experiencing abdominal pain.
There was even a time that I wish to become a man to avoid having a monster period. Good thing that unlike other women, I don't easily get iritated whenever I have it. I still try to act normal despite of the pain.

I'm really lucky too, it's not something i've ever really suffered from too badly. If i do get that nagging tummy ache i tend to just take ibuprofen and that does the trick. I really feel for ladies who suffer with this though, i have one friend who has such bad period pains that she can barely get out of bed and the pain is so intense it sometimes makes her sick, obviously she has been to the doctor about this and they have prescribed some stronger pain killers and are investigating the cause, but it must be an awful thing to deal with, especially as you know that once it's over you've got it all to do again the next month. xxx

I am one of the unlucky person that you have mentioned. I do suffer a lot during that time. When I was in hostel, I will actually suffer from pain for the whole 5 days. That was so horrible. I just used to be in bed for the first 3 days and will be better for the next 2 days.
Now am in my home. So I am just better here. Only one day I will have pain.
Definitely water is the best medicine for this. I used to drink lots and lots of water so that I can be better. Haha. Other than that, I used to drink some fresh juices.
If thats exam time, I will have a tablet for that. I can't manage without the tablet if I have exams. Its not advisable to use tablets. If we use that once, then the next time we will have a severe and unbearable pain. I have had that experience also.

When I have my period pains, usually first to second day of my period I don't take any medicine or pain reliever. I really don't suffer that much when it attacks. I can tolerate the pain. I usually divert my attention to other things when I'm in pain. I know a friend that really can't stand up when she has dysmenorhea. She really prefer to lye down and do the fetal position because she really is in pain. Good thing I don't have that kind of dysmenorhea.
