How google gather information about users to customize advertisement?

I guess anything that you put out there into cyberspace can be collected, I know some people get upset about this sort of thing but it doesn't bother me as I feel i nothing to hide so I say they welcome to it and knowing with the trillians of pieces of info they would be collection I hardly think mine would stand out any...
