Are being happy and being alive mutually exclusive?

I see so many discussions and even in real life I hear complaint after complaint. If I take the total of all discussions I see there would be a preponderance of complaints about any number of things. Is life conducive to being unhappy? Are happy people mutants?

well i certainly don't think so. how does one feel happy when one is no longer alive???
to me, the mere fact of being alive is already something to be happy about. to be alive and without health problems is to be celebrated. i'd like to think that i'm happy most of the times. complaining about something is one thing, to be really unhappy about it is another thing. sometimes we complain just for the sake of complaining though it didn't make us unhappy. cheers ;p

I am glad to know you are happy. Many people are so miserable I sometimes think they would be better off not being here at all. This world is so imperfect very few people know how to be happy at all.

Happy and alive are absolutely not mutually exclusive. But I don't see how that makes a happy person a "mutant".

Being happy is worth while sharing. I do believe this and it makes me unhappy to see so many people talk about unhappiness. Cheers!!

I hope happy people are not mutants. Unfortunately there are many people that refuse to be happy. But there are others that realize that we only get one go at life, we need to embrace it and try to be happy and enjoy the things life offers.

You are right in observing that there are many people who refuse to be happy. I sometimes think that this might be the start of a trend which will lead to being unhappy as being the norm. Should that happen the, might not the happy people be the exceptions? Perhaps 'mutants' is too strong a word. Cheers!!

I'm happy. But I think I'd be happier if I were some kind of mutant with special abilities :D
People who complain so much about so many things and couldn't see the beauty of life need help - professional help. Because they'd keep on being miserable if they see misery everywhere. We get what we focus our life on and saying "life is miserable" everytime, doesn't help.
thanks for the comment on my discussion!

I consider happiness and being alive two faces of the same coin.
Personally, I set some goals for myself, then work on them one day at a time. The goal making and the striving to reach the goal make me happy and alive. If I succeed, bonus, I am overjoyed. If I don't, I am still happy because of the struggle and the discoveries along the way. You have greater knowledge, you win more friends, even influence more people. What more could one ask for?
I am an optimist who also count the blessings I receive. While I look at a glass as half-full, I try my best to fill it up, and enjoy the endeavor, even if I don't always succeed.

Hi underdogtoo, nice thought there , it made me really ponder about it for a while. I do hope that these two aren't mutually exclusive though. We all wanted to be happy while existing in the world. People may have complains on their lives but I'm sure there are times they are happy about life as well. Life is conducive for happiness, I always believe in that after all the sad things that I encountered in my life. Happy people being mutants... hmmm.. I would have to say NO to that, my idol Wolverine wasn't entirely happy in his life and he's a mutant

Thanks for response. I think deep down inside people want to be happy but might just be wary of showing that desire for fear of being hexed or something. I want to be happy myself and I hope I am not a mutant. Cheers!!

I believe you can have issues, yet still be happy over all. We all encounter things in life that unpleasant, and we will all take our turn on the wheel of depression, worry, or anger. But hopefully most people, do have their equal share of happiness in their life. I do think that some people completely try to shut happiness out, and even when things are going well for them, they will find a way to be unhappy. I feel very sorry for those kind of people

I believe I am a generally happy individual and I also believe that people want to be happy. However, I do see some people dwelling too much on the negative that I start to wonder if I am wrong in being happy. Cheers!!

LOL- I hope happy people aren't mutants. I think happiness is all around us, but we get lost in all of our problems. I think the best thing we can do for ourselves is stop and see that which is good in our lives, instead of focusing on the bad all the time. I don't think being alive means we have to be happy, but I do think we should be happy we are alive.

Ah, it's great to find a person who knows how to be alive and happy, like me. And I'm no mutant, that's for sure. Cheers!!

I hope not. But a lot of us tend to dwell more on what's not going right rather than what we could do to make it right again. I think a lot of us has become jaded, cynical and bitter that we often ignore or don't see the possibilities/opportunities/positiveness surrounding us in life.
I don't know if happy people are mutants. But I sure would like whatever they're having.

I have always thought that being happy was the way to be. However, being with people who do nothing all day but complain while doing nothing about the things that irk them, I get the feeling that I might not be normal after all. I am a happy soul, mutant or not. Cheers!!
