What do you think is more important? While buying a computer, for which will you look for, motherboard or processor? I think we should consideer motherboard as our base while going for a purchase of a new computer. Motherboard is the foundation and if our foundation is not strong, anything build on it will not stand for long. This is my opinion, whats yours?

I agree with you on that. The motherboard ultimately dictates what your PC can have and do. Changing processors is easy and as we know, processors only follow what your motherboard can accommodate. Motherboards also dictate what technologies your PC can have. Newer motherboard platforms offer faster buses and more connectivity. But of course, as time goes on, and as technology advances further, it's harder to keep up as you'd have to buy new motherboard platforms in order to upgrade to better processors and peripherals. Take mine for example. I have a socket 745 AMD (manufactured by MSI) Sempron. These days, looking for a shop that sells brand new boards and a compatible processors is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I'd have to upgrade the board itself to accommodate better processors. Ouch, a sign of my PC's old age. Better upgrade soon. Take care!

When i first bought my pc, I didn't know much about the motherboards. That time what i looked was processors and their speed (only those numbers with GHz). I endedup buying a motherboard which supports only DDR1 ram. later i understood that we need to look for motherboards as our base and then only we can build a faster pc that is upgradable in future.

Very true. I even got a bit disappointed when I wanted to upgrade years ago and I found out that I had to upgrade the board as well so I could use the motherboard. You gave an excellent example there. Even memory buses change and new board support DDR2 and DDR3 but a few of the boards aren't ready to use them yet. It's always better to know the platform and the features of the board.

Motherboard is no doubt the most important of all ^_^ Like u mentioned, it's the basic foundation in the whole computer, and the motherboard is spoiled, even we have a new processor, will be of no use too.. But if the motherboard is good and can last, even when we processor is down, we can still change it easily, and it's much more cheaper than changing the whole motherboard ^_^ Plus with the money used to buy a new motherboard, we can use it to buy a brand new computer instead ^_^ haha

ya, If we want to utilize the maximum performance of processor and memory mwe need a motherboard with a higher FSB. If not the high speed processing power will be lost during the trasmission from processor to memory.

Both are very important, why dont you just get both good :) Processor if you want quicker speeds, maybe parallel processor for extreem speed :) But the motherboard is the most important componat of a computer, so that too. Both i would say! lol Chris

If we compare it with prce then the processor is much costlier then the board ,so buying a better porceesor will have a more value for money. and if the comparison is for performance the again a better proccesor means better speed and a good processor has a effective colling sytem and hence doesnot face the heating problem. But if going for a good configuration both of them co-exists and both of them needs to be considered in buying it. Though motherboard is the base but processor is the heart and brains of the cumputer

But if we buy a faster processor and the motherboard is not fast enough, we are wasting our money that we spend on processor. A faster motherboard which can transfer the data from processor is also very important. The Processors speed and performance can only been utilized if we have better motherboard.

Definetely motherboard should be choosed first. Depends on the motherboard we can chooose the processor. There are lot of configurations available in the motherboard market. Definetely we have to analyse a lot before buying to get a good one in a reasonable one. After decided motherboard, we can choose the processor it supports.
