I did a little baking last night...actually banana bread for my son as it's his birthday today. I was measuring out ingredience and got to thinking how old my measuring cup is! I got it for a shower present 38 years ago when I was getting married! All these years I have used it to feed family and friends.....do you have a utensil that has been a favorite of yours for a very long time?

I have some favorites, but I don't have anything that has been around for more than maybe five or six years. It isn't that I replace things that frequently; it's that I'm still fairly young.

I did have a favorite utensil for many years but it disappeared about 5 years ago when our youngest daughter was married. My potato peeler went for a walk right into our daughter's kitchen. I looked for that little gadget for a long time until I thought to ask her if she had seen it. She admitted borrowing it and somehow it never made it back to my kitchen. I had it about 35 years. I was so emotionally attached to this peeler that I cried for days when it left home..lol

You are lucky to have your utensil for 38 years. I doubt whether our utenils last 38 days. We are always short of knives, teaspooons, spoons or forks. A couple of them always manage to get lost somewhere. I have my doubts whether they end up in our garbage bin.

I have a large yellow rubbermaid bowl that I know I had before my sons were born, maybe several years, but at least as old as the oldest. He is 27, so that bowl could be up to 30 yrs old!
I love that bowl, and even though it has a handle and a lip on it, I have always used it for my popcorn bowl too. It's still going strong after all these years.

My mom has some old stainless steel tea cups..
She also got them as gift in her marriage. They have my mother's name's initials engraved on them...
As they are made of stainless steel they are still in fine condition and it can still be used for another 30 years..!!
The fact that I love about them are that they have a different say very old design of tea cups.. I never get to see cups like those anywhere else..

The oldest thing I have tha is still a favorite is a knife I got years ago...around 10 years I'd say. It has a red and gold carved handle and has been sharpened to razor sharpness. It's wonderful for slicing hard cheese, paring and chopping. I don't let it out of our home...I doubt it could ever be replaced.

You had me at banana bread.
I used to love it when my mom would use things like that and tell me the stories behind them. I have a few things like that now, a measuring cup also and a set of measuring spoons. My husband particularly likes that we still use his set of tupperware salt and pepper shakers that he had in college. The are ugly and I make them stay in the spice cabinet, but I smile everytime I use them.

Probably the oldest untensils I have are a set of Tupperware measuring cups. They are green and stack up. I think there's a 1 cup, 3/4 cup, 2/3 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/3 cup, and a 1/4 cup measure. Years ago, I laid some sort of hot, rounded tool across the top rim of the 1/4 cup measure and it made 2 half-moon grooves on the rim's edge that are quite handy for pouring (right-handed or left-handed)!
When I'm getting ready to bake, I get those out. I've even got a blue set that is similar but has one less measuring cup (not Tupperware) and I only use those if I've already dirtied the green ones!

Oh my gosh, Jill, I forgot all about that Tupperware yellow strainer! That is still the only strainer I have and I have used it for years, probably 30 or more. How on earth does it last that long???

Yes, mine is my electric hand mixer. I bought it used at a friend's yard sale before I got married 30 years ago. She had it for years before she sold it. Its still going strong for me too. I also have some old cookie cutters that were handed down in the family. They are the old metal ones with the handle on them. I admit I don't use them often though because the dough tends to stick inside them.

Well, yes I do. I have this wooden rolling pin and I just love it. It was my grandmother's so it has been in family for many years. Older them me and I'm 48 so I really don't know how old it is. I got it when she passed away. They wanted to give me the dishes I said no I want the rolling pin and the potato masher. But I love the rolling pin the most. Your friend onlydia

Hi Jill; My favorite is my Mother's Old bowls she had her mixing and baking bowls;
I have several of course, she passed away in 1997;
When ever I take them out to do my own baking it always reminds me of
the many many various baking items we fixed, the many other dishes fixed
or mixed up that bowl;
I'm not sure how old this bowl is that is my favorite, I'm 47 and its been
around as far as I can remember so who knows? But I would cry if it ever
breaks
